A Shopping Addiction

As soon as we discovered that we are expecting a girl, I had to go out and buy something pink. I just cannot seem to get enough pink! Even worse, I cannot seem to stay away from my favorite baby boutique and I even seek out this baby boutique brand at the local children’s consignment shop. Either way, I seem to be developing an addiction: shopping for baby girl clothes (at the very least window shopping). I am not expecting too many gifts from a large audience especially since this is our second baby. There are certainly clothing items that … Continue reading

Husbands and Christmas Shopping

Shopping has been stereotyped as a female activity. Women are usually thought to do most of the shopping. Some are even thought to have a shopping addiction. As we all know there are a couple times of the year when shopping is the strongest. These are the big days when stores have sales and women wake up early to be at the stores before daylight. In previous article, I posed the question to you of your husband shopping on the day after Thanksgiving. While some men may go shopping with you, they may not actually be involved in the shopping. … Continue reading

Airline Credit Cards—“The Travel Addiction”

I live in the Wisconsin. My parents live in Hawaii. Needless to say, we do a lot of flying back and forth to see each other. (They like to see my 2-year-old daughter as much as possible.) So, after about a dozen offers to apply for an airline credit card (generally you earn one mile for every dollar you charge), I broke down, applied and received my new American Airlines platinum card in the mail. I couldn’t wait to break it in. I received the card a few weeks before Christmas. Just in time to have it accompany me on … Continue reading

Nine Months Old Part II

Along with my daughter’s increased appetite and flourishing palate, she has, of course, correlating growth. Throughout the course of the summer I have watched my daughter’s clothes slowly become shorter and tighter. While my daughter can easily fit into nine month clothes (with extra space in fact), several of her three to six month outfits still fit. However, we are transitioning into fall and even if most of her summer clothes fit, they are not appropriate for cold weather (which we have had a lot of). Still, I have been able to salvage several pairs of pants (leggings really) and … Continue reading

The Babyccinos Trend

After a hectic morning of diaper changes, playtime and finger rhymes, you just need a little pick me up at your favorite coffee shop. After all, being a baby is hard work. Sigh. That is right, I said baby. One of the hottest trends in both urban and suburban parenting these days is to take your toddler out for a babyccino. While you indulge in your favorite coffee drink, you baby can stay happily occupied with his or her own. Babyccinos have been around since well, since the fancy coffee baristas. Parents have been requesting a shot of warm milk … Continue reading

When to Extend the Animal Family

I need a canine friend My husband and I want another dog. Whenever we go to the dog park, we always come away wishing that we had another dog for Chihiro to play with. Cole has his companion, so it would be nice if she had one too. Also, having two dogs and two cats just seems like the right amount of pets for me. Jonathan and I did seriously talk about whether or not we wanted another dog. As I’ve mentioned before, we ultimately decided that it would be better to wait a while. We still take frequent overnight … Continue reading

Newborn Clothes

When preparing for our daughter’s arrival, I was hesitant to acquire any newborn sized outfits for her. My “pink” shopping addiction began with purchasing mostly zero to three month sizes. I limited myself to four newborn sized onsies. As my baby girl clothing collection grew, and subsequently my new addiction, I found myself buying clothing in every size but the newborn size. In my mind I figured my daughter could very well weigh over eight pounds at birth making the use of newborn clothes completely obsolete. After visiting my sister, brother-in-law and their five week old daughter, I started to … Continue reading

Government Crackdown on Medicare Painkiller Abuse

The Department of Health and Human Services is trying to prevent people from using Medicare prescription drug plans to do “doctor shopping” for pain medication. This is part of the federal government’s efforts to combat fraud within the Medicare system. The term “doctor shopping” does not mean that someone is calling up different doctor’s offices on the phone, in an attempt to learn what they would be charged by that office for a standard visit. It doesn’t mean that someone is trying to discover which offices accept the person’s health insurance plan. Instead, “doctor shopping” is a term that refers … Continue reading

Getting Ready for the Baby

Preparations for our daughters birth began as soon as we discovered that I was expecting. There is always something to do whether it be taking supplements to support the baby’s development or getting baby gear together. With each phase of pregnancy comes new things to accomplish and additional changes to be made. I have had my fair share of changes to my regular routine including my diet and exercise regime; modifications were a must to maintain a healthy pregnancy. I also undertook many projects in preparation for the baby, many of them taking the form of “art” projects for the … Continue reading

Spending Time With My Sister Part II

On day two of our visit we awoke fairly early (probably due to the time difference) and I, of course, was starving. I had brought a cooler full of food with us, particularly breakfast food items for my daily three egg omelet. It was not apparent yet that my sister and her husband were awake yet so I prepared breakfast for my son and I during which our hosts awoke with their baby daughter! While my son and I ate our breakfast, the baby also had her breakfast and my sister’s husband made breakfast for the two of them. The … Continue reading
