Easing Morning Sickness With Fresh Air

Not all expectant mother’s experience morning sickness. Of those that do, some woman are nearly incapacitated by severe and persistent symptoms. While others experience bothersome but manageable symptoms. Luckily, I fall into the latter group of expectant mothers. While I can function quite well through the day, motivation certainly sways with the waves of nausea that come and go throughout the day. Some days the nausea is kept at bay with small and frequent snacks but other days the nausea never goes away. I was having one of those days last week — nothing could quell the queasiness. It was … Continue reading

A Tale of Morning Sickness

Morning sickness only lasted ten weeks for me. In retrospect, that doesn’t seem so bad, but at the time, it seemed like forever. I think my morning sickness days were pretty unvaried, but I recall one day during my first trimester that was very different. One of the most exciting or rather scary morning sickness moments occurred one cold Saturday morning. I was taking a shower. I remember there was lots of steam and that I was going through my routine of vomiting and dry heaving. All of a sudden my pupils dilated and everything got really bright. I sat … Continue reading

Score Another One for Mother’s Intuition

When I was pregnant I had no clue whether I was having a boy or girl. I didn’t have a gut feeling that I was expecting one more than the other, and the single ultrasound I was given resulted in these parting words from the tech: “Don’t paint the nursery yet.” Apparently, my daughter was positioned oddly during the ultrasound, so the tech was not able to determine her gender with 100 percent accuracy. Hence his witty little quip as I peeled myself from the examining table and lumbered out of the room. Interestingly, while I didn’t have a feeling … Continue reading

Why My Husband Didn’t Force Me to Go to the ER

Yesterday I shared why Wayne almost forced me to go to the hospital on Saturday morning. Later in the weekend, he told me what a conundrum he’d been in. As he held me while I bawled because I was alternating between coughing so hard and gasping for breath that I almost passed out, he debated whether he should just sling me over his shoulder, haul me downstairs, toss me in his truck and drive me to the ER. Instead he opted for the bargaining approach. (He feared I’d jump out of the car and get myself killed in traffic if … Continue reading

You Might be Having Twins If. . .

I have talked with many mothers who at one point during their pregnancy, were at very least intrigued by the idea that they might be having twins. Maybe someone in their family has had them or maybe they just like the thought of having two for the price of one. However, I can assure you, a twin pregnancy is distinctive from a singleton one. Here are a few tell tale signs that you might be expecting two! 1. Extreme morning sickness. Every woman is different and some women wouldn’t experience morning sickness at all, some will experience moderate amounts and … Continue reading
