Exercise During Pregnancy

Everyone knows that exercise during pregnancy is a good thing, if your prenatal care provider feels that you are healthy enough to exercise. Of course, when you are pregnant, exercising may not be something that you feel like doing much of the time especially if you feel nauseous or tired. I have been pregnant twice, and the first time around I did not exercise very much. The second time, I exercised regularly from the time that I discovered that I was pregnant until a week before my son was born, when my midwives decided that it was not safe for … Continue reading

Continued Exercise During Pregnancy

It was my first pregnancy that convinced me that exercise should be a regular and consistent part of my daily and weekly routine. Having developed a firm commitment to exercise in the last three years, I find myself not only enjoying my workout routine during my second pregnancy but depending on it for relief from pregnancy aches and pains. I have discovered now more than ever before that consistency in a prenatal exercise is essential to a healthy pregnancy. In early pregnancy I continued to do my regular workouts without any need for modification. My goals at the beginning of … Continue reading

Why Exercise During Pregnancy

Our bodies were designed to be exercised. Our muscles are meant to be toned and our hormones depend on aerobic movement to stay in balance. The need for exercise does not go away with pregnancy, rather the need is increased. Countless studies have shown the health benefits of exercise for both mother and baby. Exercise relieves and prevents aches and pains that are common during pregnancy, which giving the mother a surge in endorphins giving her … Continue reading

Pregnancy and America’s Next Top Model

Recently I found myself enthralled with season fifteen of America’s Next Top Model. I found it fascinating to watch the group of skinning and not necessarily very pretty model wannabes undergoing transformation after transformation. I found my self coveting some of the girls’ long hair made even longer with extensions. After cutting my hair short time and time again over the past two and half years, I am trying to grow it out again. As tempting as extensions would be, they are not for me and as awesome as it would be to lose the extra belly fat to resume … Continue reading

Motivation to Exercise

I have never been much of an exerciser. I went for runs with my college roommates but that only lasted a couple weeks. I made good use of the treadmill in the basement in the last few weeks preceding my wedding. I took a Pilate class for a month just to get out of the house while my husband spent late nights at rehearsals during graduate school. I never stuck with anything I tried and I never really cared. Sure I needed to get fit and tone my pathetically weak muscles, but the motivation just wasn’t there. That all changed … Continue reading

A Review of Tracy Anderson’s “Post- Pregnancy Workout ”

Tracy Anderson is a trainer to celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna. I read about her success with her star clients and was very eager to try her “Post-Pregnancy Workout.” However, I have tried a lot of videos in my day, and was very skeptical about Anderson’s. Still, I only heard great things about her exercise method and decided to give it a try. Anderson combines dance aerobics (sold separately) with toning exercises (“Post-Pregnancy Workout”). She incorporates small weights (2-3 pounds) in an attempt to sculpt long lean muscles and to avoid the bulky look. I took dance as a … Continue reading

Fitness Basics for Pregnancy

Labor and delivery (unless you are having cesarean, of course) is a marathon. It requires incredible amounts of energy and you will definitely feel its effects on your body the next day, possibly for the next week. You will feel like you ran a hundred miles and it will feel strange to stand up; your legs may even wobble! It’s no wonder the nurses will make you ride in a wheelchair from the delivery room to the mother and baby room. They don’t want you to fall down. Unless you are under strict orders of bed rest, it’s a good … Continue reading

Pregnancy Exercise Myths

Most experts say exercise is good for mom and baby, as long as the pregnancy is healthy and there are no complications. In fact, many doctors discuss the benefits with patients or offer handouts regarding exercise.
