Autumn and Pregnancy

Autumn is a glorious season, one that I have not had the pleasure of experiencing for the last five years. I always felt a considerable loss as I went off to work during the autumn months year after year. With much anticipation my husband, son, and I returned to the Midwest with high hopes for cooler temperatures and the changing leaves of red, orange, and yellow. Having endured late pregnancy during the hot summer months in the desert with my first pregnancy, I was particularly looking forward to the cooler temperatures that the Midwest would afford me during this pregnancy. … Continue reading

Traveling During Pregnancy Part V

3:30 We are on the last leg of our long drive. At this point we both need a snack. I have a bag with dry snacks and some apples. I pass some crackers back to my son and he says, “Thank you Mommy!” I have some peanuts and an apple as a snack which makes me think of caramel apples! Yum! 4PM If we are on track and on time, we should arrive at our destination in one hour, but I have a feeling that it is going to take us a bit longer than that based on my math … Continue reading

Picking Pumpkins Part I

The summer heat has gone away and in it’s place we find ourselves with cooler temperatures and falling leaves. We are surrounded by autumn inspiration in the changing color of the leaves and the autumn harvests of pumpkins. Having seen pumpkins in the stores for several weeks, I knew there was something better to be had from a local organic pumpkin patch where we would be able to pick our own pumpkins. We had been anticipating our autumn trip to our favorite apple orchard and pumpkin patch for several months. Now that autumn is finally in full swing and halloween … Continue reading

Fall Fun

Fall is finally here and my family and I have been taken full advantage of the cooler weather. We excitedly unpacked our cool weather sweaters, pants, and shoes (no more sandals). My son was particularly enthusiastic about getting to wear his hoodies, hats, and mittens. As we were getting ready to spend some time outside, he would jump up and down saying, “I wanna wear my sweater with a hood, I wanna wear my gloves!” He also enthralled with his sister’s warm weather clothes. She also had a sweater and hat as well as couple sweaters with hoods. The most … Continue reading

Hail the Returning Aunt

Oh! To be an aunt! What a wonderful thing it is. My son loves his aunts. He has lots of them and he loves each one of them a great deal. A lot. So much that it’s impossible to gauge his sadness when one of them leaves. This year alone two of his aunts went off to college. This was in some ways a terrible thing. We’d been away for a number of years and our son hadn’t had a lot of time to spend with his aunts. The summer was full of fun times to be spent with them, … Continue reading

Spending Time With My Sister Part VI

On day five our our visit, we had planned to go for a walk around and older more affluent neighborhood and take some autumn inspired photos. Unfortunately when we awoke the next morning it was raining and much colder. Not exactly the ideal weather we were hoping we would have. So we modified our plans a little bit. We ate breakfast and did our dance cardio workout. Once the baby was good and fed. We made a picnic lunch of sandwiches, Greek yogurt, and grapes, and headed off to another mall that had a couple maternity boutiques. This mall was … Continue reading

Nesting

After returning home from spending a week with my sister, brother-in-law, and new baby niece, my nesting instinct really kicked into high gear. I experienced the sudden need and urge to get our house in order. First came the laundry which probably amounted to three loads. Unfortunately our dryer is not working properly and it takes over two hours to dry a large load. Thus laundry became an all day affair. I folded the last load of laundry at eleven in the evening. The following day I decided to clean the main level of our house (living room, dining room, … Continue reading

What’s the Deal with the Fruit Scale?

Why the heck do we measure things in terms of fruit? My research on fibroids — starting with the info packet from the doctor — said that they can get as large as a grapefruit. Talking to friends revealed that many of them have experienced the fruit scale when talking about fibroids and other growths. After my ultrasound results came in, the doctor described one of my growths as a “long grapefruit” (to which a friend said I’d achieved a whole new level on the fruit scale). A quick web search found a really cute list that ran through a … Continue reading

Baby Girl Given 25 Middle Names

Parents certainly have a right to name their kids anything they want to. Celebrities are well known for giving their kids outrageous names. What about 25 middle names? That’s exactly what a mother in London has done. What’s more the names all pay homage to boxers.
