YouTube Introduces YouTube Kids App Profiles

YouTube started rolling out Kid Profiles on November 2, 2017. The purpose is to have a kid-safe YouTube Kids account that your child can use to access kid-friendly content. It also means that parents won’t have to share their YouTube account with their children anymore. YouTube explains the decision to create Kid Profiles this way: “After talking to parents all over, we know that kids who love the YouTube Kids app are getting older and want a platform that’ll grow with them. Whether kids are watching Monster High, DC Kids, LEGO, learning their ABCs, or picking up the latest tricks … Continue reading

Interactive Family Trees For Kids To Use

Young children tend to want to try doing the things that they see their parents and grandparents doing. If you are a genealogist, then your child, or grandchild, will want to “help” you to do that. One way to let them do that is to find some fun, interactive, family trees that are designed for kids to fill in. Genealogists tend to want to share the things that they discover about their ancestors. Little kids tend to want to “help with” the activities they see their parents and grandparents doing. While it can be exciting to see that your family … Continue reading

Birthdays for Babies

My little “baby” just turned two. I can hardly believe it. I still think of him as a baby, but now, he is turning into such a little boy. When we had his 2nd birthday, we kept it simple. We only invited family over, opened a few presents, and ate cake and ice cream. It was pretty much the same thing we did for his 1st birthday too. For my daughter, she had a bigger birthday when she turned two. She had friends over, and we had a little slip n slide party in the backyard. I felt bad that … Continue reading

Adoption Blog Month in Review: August 2007

A major theme for this month in the adoption blog was discussions—especially discussions with your child, but also discussions with others. I began the month sharing my four-year-old daughter Regina’s questions about her droopy eyelid in Talking With Kids About Special Needs, and in Principles for Talking with Kids About Special Needs I discuss how I tried to use the same tenets for talking about her eye that I use when talking about adoption issues. Regina also figures prominently in the next blogs. She told me, “I Don’t Like My Skin”. I stumbled through a response, shared in I Don’t … Continue reading

Birth Videos for Kids

If you plan to have your child present at the birth of his or her sibling, you will need to spend time preparing them for the birth. Videos are a great way to introduce children to the concept of birth. They can get an idea of what is going to happen and you have the opportunity to gauge their reaction to the video. A good video is a great way to begin the conversation about the birth of the baby. You may think that watching shows like A Baby Story or Birth Day will help prepare your children to witness … Continue reading

Including Children in Home Births

One reason some women choose to give birth at home is the ability to have other family members present. This includes the baby’s older siblings. These women tend to view birth as an experience to be shared by the whole family. While siblings can be present at some hospital births, it is easier to accommodate them at a home birth. Your older children may feel more comfortable attending a birth at home. The hospital can seem like a big, scary place to children. They feel comfortable and safe in their homes, so it makes sense that they would feel more … Continue reading

I’m a Baby Person

One thing I’ve realized about myself over the years of being a Mother is that I am a baby person. It’s funny, because before I had kids, I never really thought this about myself. And, even after the birth of my first, I still didn’t quite realize it. I loved her, and goo gooed and gaa gaaed over her like any first time mother would. I was smitten, of course, but didn’t realize that I really loved the baby stage until she got a little older. I read this great blog post the other day about just this topic. It … Continue reading
