The Ultimatum

Living close to family has its ups and downs. After being away for half of a decade we were looking forward to being around family again. I’ve got to say: it’s mostly “ups.” One of the things that’s been ups is watching our son grow in what he wants to eat. Just yesterday he started eating spinach (really demanding it) in preference over meat, potatoes, peanut butter, etc. — you name it! Truly something amazing. His aunt has him on cheese. His grandmothers both have him on ice (something we don’t do much of at home). All around he is … Continue reading

Do You Dream In Chocolate?

Do you like chocolate? If you are anything like me, then the answer is a resounding yes. In fact, I just finished eating a home made brownie and it was delicious. Since chocolate is so appealing to so many people, its popularity makes it a good choice for a business idea. Chocolate is also something that you can work with at home, in your own kitchen. As with any home-based business, you will need to write a business plan. The process of writing your business plan will help you determine what kinds of chocolate confections you will make and how … Continue reading

I Hate Pregnancy

I have to be honest. I don’t like being pregnant that much. I don’t have it that bad though. Some women suffer from serious morning sickness. I didn’t. Some women get put on bed rest. Not me. But, I still don’t care for being pregnant. I’m a whiner. I have been my whole life, so being pregnant just gives me entirely too many reasons to complain. I do get sick during the first trimester. I never threw up, but did get very nauseous during the early evening hours. Other than that, the first trimester just brought with it extreme fatigue. … Continue reading

Will Your Body Bounce Back?

The truth of the matter is, that there are some parts of your body that may never bounce back. I hate to sound negative, but I like to keep it real too!! After all, there are some things that I wish other women would have told me about how much my body would change, and how some parts of my body would never be the same again! Some women have it easy. You know the type. They are most likely thin to begin with, have never struggled with their weight, and bounce back from each and every pregnancy like it … Continue reading

Beating Mom Guilt

Maybe you are already feeling it now that you are pregnant. I’m talking about Mom guilt. It’s a disease I tell you. Every woman that has a child has it at some point or another. And, some women are worse than others, but it seems that it is inescapable. It might already be creeping into your pregnancy. Maybe you are having thoughts like: “Am I eating enough healthy foods?” “I shouldn’t have had that Diet Coke” “I’m gaining too much weight” or “I’m not gaining enough weight!” Whatever the thoughts are, the best way to stop it is by working … Continue reading

Eating Out with Baby

I remember when my first child was born. She was just a few weeks old, and I hadn’t left the house for anything! I was craving some Olive Garden and really needed some. Desperately. So, my Mom who was in town helping out, myself, and my husband along with our first child in tow all went out to eat. All was going well until my daughter started fussing. To me, it sounded like a scream so loud that it was disrupting the entire restaurant. I quickly picked her up and tried to console her. Too new to nursing, I didn’t … Continue reading

A Baby Does Change Your Life

I think some people have the attitude when they are getting pregnant, that a baby doesn’t have to change your life. I think this is funny now that I am a Mom with two kids. But, I’m sure I was a little naive too. I remember right before my first was born, and there was only about a week until my due date and I had a little break down. I remember crying and crying to my husband that it was never going to be “just us” again. I hear people say things like, “A baby doesn’t have to change … Continue reading

Chocolate During Pregnancy May Make for Happy Baby

When I was pregnant with my first daughter in 2006, for some reason, I heard about this 2003 study where some doctors found that women who eat chocolate daily during pregnancy have happier babies. What? So, I was definitely interested. I was already eating chocolate daily. What pregnant woman doesn’t? OK, so maybe there are some pregnant women who don’t, but I definitely wasn’t one of them. And, the funny thing is, I wasn’t that big of a chocoholic before pregnancy. But, once those hormones kicked in, I was hooked. And, the other funny thing? I did have a pretty … Continue reading
