Should You Stay or Should You Go When He Cheats

If you just found out your husband is cheating you may wonder what in the world you are going to do now. He might tell you that he doesn’t want to lose you and that he wishes he had never done it, but how do you know for sure? You don’t want to be one of those women who stays with their husband while he continues to cheat but at the same time, what if he really does mean it and won’t ever cheat on you again? You don’t want to walk away from a marriage that you’ve been faithful … Continue reading

Dealing With Thanksgiving Leftovers

It’s done. I have cooked, baked, served, consumed and cleaned up enough food for a small army. No matter how conservative I try to be when making a holiday dinner there is always too much food. There are just so many yummy foods to have at the holidays, and so many of them taste good mixed together that you have to have a little of everything. Now my fridge is bulging, bowls, casserole dishes, Tupperware and who can forget the pies? That’s a lot of food for two people. The really good thing is since it’s a long weekend I … Continue reading

Asthmatic Children Dealing with Heat and Humidity

Well a heat wave is stretching across several states. Here in Wisconsin we are going on day two of high temperatures and humidity. We are looking at the entire week being this way. There is talk of it extending into the next week as well. This can be a real problem for asthmatics. I feel sorry for my 12-year-old son when the weather is like this because he is pretty much confined to the house. I was not happy yesterday when I heard the front door slam and went upstairs to discover he had taken the dog outside for a … Continue reading

Dealing with the Criticism – the Parents’ Job

It’s a completely normal occurrence. Jimmy goes to soccer practice. Coach says, “Hey, Jimmy, why’d your parents decide to teach you at home?” Maybe Coach genuinely wants to know. Maybe Coach wants to razz him a little. In either case, Jimmy’s now in an awkward position – that of defending a choice his parents made, without his parents present. It doesn’t matter how he replies – it’s still awkward. Ideally, this would be a question that Coach would pose directly to the parents. After all, they’re the ones who made the decision. But those who ask the questions aren’t always … Continue reading

Dealing With Aches and Pains

Aches and pains are pretty common during pregnancy. They are so common that it’s unusual if you don’t have them. Headaches, backaches and sore hips and joints pretty much come with the territory. The tricky part is dealing with the pain in such a way that will not present any risk to the baby. You may have popped two or three Ibuprofen before you were pregnant, but it’s no longer so simple. While some over the counter pain relievers, such as Acetaminophen, are perfectly safe during pregnancy, other common pain killers, like Aspirin, should be avoided. For those who want … Continue reading

Dealing with Night Sweats

Some women will experience night sweats at some point during pregnancy. The degree of sweating can vary from very mild and occasional sweating to more severe sweats. Night sweats are similar to hot flashes that are experienced later as menopause approaches. The cause is the same as well, hormonal changes. Specifically changes in estrogen levels can interfere with the normal heating and cooling of the body. The heat and temperature of the body is regulated by the hypothalamus. The hypothalamus releases body heat when it is hot and keeps in heat when it is cold outside. This explains why people … Continue reading

Simple Tips for Dealing with an Allergy in Marriage

Here are some simple tips for cooking when one person has a wheat and gluten allergy. If it is a pasta dish, I will put wheat pasta on in one saucepan for him and rice and corn pasta in a separate saucepan for me. The sauce that goes with the pasta will always be gluten free. If I’m making lasagna, I use just gluten free pasta rather than fuss around with two separate dishes. Visitors to our place have commented how good my lasagna tastes. If I crumb fish or rissoles it will be in rice crumbs. Any cakes including … Continue reading

Baby Blog Month in Review: July 2008

Two of my three children are summer babies. That is, they were born in the summer and had their first months surrounded by sunshine streaming in the windows, the sound of birds chirping, and days spent wearing nothing but a diaper and a “onsie.” I made sure that they had Fourth of July outfits ready, even though one of them arrived a week after the holiday. I guess he just wasn’t interested in the parade. Do you have a summer baby, too? We had a lot of new information to share this past month, such as recall notices and new … Continue reading

Sleeping in the Heat

I have a hard time falling asleep when it’s too hot in the room. I just can’t get comfortable! If you have the same problem, here are some tips to help you sleep easy in the heat. Heat rises. You might be cooler on a lower story than an upper one. Help prevent heat build-up inside. Use blinds to keep the sun out. Open windows at night if the temperature is cooler. Cool off with a shower before bed. Keep in mind that hot showers can increase the humidity, which can make the heat seem worse. Cool off with a … Continue reading
