Learning to Love Your Body

We all know that motherhood comes with a price. Your body goes through a remarkable transformation as it prepares to grow another human being. If you are like most of us, you probably have a few battle scars to show for it. I’ve gotten used to my tiger stripes, but I still struggle with my post-pregnancy body. It’s been almost 5 years since I had Logan and I’m still not to my pre-pregnancy weight. I envy my friends who walk out of the hospital looking like a model in their size 2 jeans again. When I left the hospital I … Continue reading

Maternity Photos

One of the things that I wish I had done when I was pregnant was a maternity photo shoot. Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that I did not feel very attractive or photogenic with the huge belly and all of those pregnancy hormones circulating in my body. Now I feel a twinge of regret every time I see pictures of pregnant women. Despite how I felt at the time, my pregnancies were a beautiful part of my life and I wish I had a few nice pictures to remember them by. If you are thinking about … Continue reading

Single-Parenting vs. Adoption

Single parenting can come about in a number of ways. Some of us were thrust into it unwillingly as a result of a divorce, others are faced with a difficult decision; single parent or place. I have been on both ends of the single parenting spectrum. I was just out of high school and faced with the most difficult decision of my life. My boyfriend and I had just broken up less than 24 hours before I found myself pregnant. A good friend of mine found herself in a similar situation not long after I did. One of us chose … Continue reading

Adoption Loss

Throughout the adoption process, when people heard that we were adopting they automatically looked at us like we were defective. They would ask if we had tried hormones, in-vitro, or if my husband was not able to make babies. There are no biological reasons why we went the adoption route. The choice to adopt was just that for us, a choice. We made a conscious choice to prevent ourselves from getting pregnant; we made the choice to adopt as a couple from the beginning of our marriage. You would be surprised at how differently families that adopt are treated compared … Continue reading

May is pregnancy awareness month! In honor of the 4 million + babies born in the United States each year, P.A.M (Pregnancy Awareness Month) and O.N.E Coconut Water have teamed up to provide pregnant women with helpful tips for a healthy pregnancy. With my first pregnancy, I wouldn’t say labor was easy. Labor is hard and largely painful work. There are certainly factors that can make labor more difficult. For … Continue reading

A Baby Does Change Your Life

I think some people have the attitude when they are getting pregnant, that a baby doesn’t have to change your life. I think this is funny now that I am a Mom with two kids. But, I’m sure I was a little naive too. I remember right before my first was born, and there was only about a week until my due date and I had a little break down. I remember crying and crying to my husband that it was never going to be “just us” again. I hear people say things like, “A baby doesn’t have to change … Continue reading

Don’t Lose Yourself When Baby Arrives

When someone gets married, they can easily lose their own identity in their marriage. The same thing can happen after baby arrives. But, it doesn’t have to. Right now, while you are still pregnant and baby free, it’s a good time to do some self-reflection. Think about what makes you the person you are right now aside from growing another life inside you. What makes you happy? What is it that you love to do? Who are you? Keeping a journal is a good way to answer these questions. Spend an evening alone, and really ponder what has made your … Continue reading

Three Common Mistakes Pregnant Women Make

Today I’m going to talk about three mistakes that I see pregnant women making all the time. There are common mistakes that seem small, but they can having lasting effects. The first mistakes has to do with posture, but it really stems from a desire to move past that “bloated” stage and right into the “I’m visibly pregnant” stage. You’ll see if if you look through images of pregnant women during their early weeks. They are pushing their stomach out and you can tell by the exaggerated arch in their back. The problem is this is a very bad way … Continue reading
