Going “Home” – Who Will Be Waiting for Me?

Ever since her stroke last Tuesday, my mom has been talking about “going home.” How her people are waiting for her. Aunt LaLa (her mom’s sister), Pearl (her sister), her mom, and her dad…all of whom have passed away. Yesterday she was particularly adamant that she had to get up and get going home because her people were there waiting for her. “Your people are here, Dorothy,” Wayne said. “Courtney, me, Murphy and the cats. You’re not going home just yet. No one’s there.” “That’s true. I do have to go by myself. But I don’t want to. I don’t … Continue reading

Three Reasons to Leave the Stuff in the Store

I was browsing one of my favorite blogs yesterday, I came across a bit of home decor that I had admired for a while on this blogger’s page. She had it hung in her living room, and it looked wonderful. Of course, she got it for free in order to promote the store that carried the products, and as part of a one-day promotion, that particular item was discounted from $59.99 to $19.99, a real bargain. I clicked over to the site and almost ordered the item. Almost, because I know that there were at least three reasons to leave … Continue reading

Skirting the Issue

Growing up, my school uniform consisted of a white Polo shirt, a navy blue skirt that hit right below the knee and long white socks whose cuff absolutely, positively could not dip below the lower thigh. Basically, female students couldn’t show even a strip of skin below the waist. Yes, I attended Catholic school. No, it wasn’t in the 1930s. As for the school’s cheerleading uniforms… wait, what cheerleading? Actually, the high school did have a few girls, who were allowed to shake some pom poms (the plastic versions), at basketball and football games. However, they did so in our … Continue reading

Valentine’s Day Balloons

“Bah-moo,” our son says with happiness and delight. “Bah-moo,” he says again and points excitedly towards the sky. “Ugh!” He’s unhappy now. He thinks about hitting me to get my attention. “What,” I ask? “Bah-moo,” he points. Ah. “Balloon.” Too many syllables in that one word for our son’s mouth at the moment. He eagerly attempts to get the words out though. It started with an infatuation with those floating balls in other books. It then moved to a desire to see them up close in the various supermarkets that had them floating around the aisles. Eventually I’d be waiting … Continue reading

I Hate Pregnancy

I have to be honest. I don’t like being pregnant that much. I don’t have it that bad though. Some women suffer from serious morning sickness. I didn’t. Some women get put on bed rest. Not me. But, I still don’t care for being pregnant. I’m a whiner. I have been my whole life, so being pregnant just gives me entirely too many reasons to complain. I do get sick during the first trimester. I never threw up, but did get very nauseous during the early evening hours. Other than that, the first trimester just brought with it extreme fatigue. … Continue reading

Reasons to Fire Your Doctor During Pregnancy

With my first pregnancy, I hated my doctor. With my second, I loved my doctor. I had female OBGYNs both times. First, let me tell you what I loved about my doctor during my second pregnancy. She was calming. She did not overreact about things. This was exactly what I needed. I am a worrier, so having a doctor that was not was very helpful. It was easy to schedule appointments and I never waited more than 10 minutes. She listened to me ramble. Never once did I feel like she was going to rush out of the room, or … Continue reading

Chill Out During Pregnancy

When you are pregnant, there is a lot to worry about. I am THE QUEEN of worry. So, with my first pregnancy, I was a mess. I wish I would have made the effort to have chilled out a little bit during pregnancy. But, I didn’t really know how. You can easily worry yourself into a frenzy. Issues that many women fret over include: *What to eat and how much? *What kind of vitamins to take *Is the baby moving enough, or moving too much? *What kind of parent will you be? *Are you gaining enough weight? Not enough? The … Continue reading

Pregnancy the Third Time Around

I am in the stage of life right now where I could easily talk myself out of having another child. As I have blogged about before, it’s hard to know when to have another baby. But, I do know that I want another one. But, there are a few things that worry me. * Three seems like a crowd. While I have plenty of people in my life that have 3 or more kids, it just seems like a lot of little people to tote around. I envision myself trying to make a simple trip to the grocery store with … Continue reading

The Garage Sale- Part 2

Some experts suggest you shouldn’t price items in a garage sale but let people offer what they think the items are worth. These experts claim people will often offer more than you would have put on the item. Others say to make sure items are clearly priced. It may be negotiable but it is a starting point. I adhere to this idea. If I went to a garage sale where I had to ask the price of everything I would quickly get fed up and leave. Be prepared to negotiate on price. Those who go to garage sales regularly usually … Continue reading

I Am THAT Mom

I did it. I succumbed to the fear… nay, the reality, that the dinosaur costume my 5-year had to HAD. TO. have for Halloween might not be hanging in Toys R Us later this month. Yes, I bought the overpriced green fleece ensemble complete with plush claws… last month… shortly BEFORE Labor Day. OH YES I DID! I am that mom. The one other moms can blame for purchasing the one and only size 5 dinosaur costume Toys R Us decided to carry in our local store. I swear there was only one left when we got there. Yes, I … Continue reading
