Eighteen Weeks

As I enter my eighteenth week of pregnancy, there are a lot of things on my mind as well as events that are getting closer and closer (more quickly than I anticipated). I remember the eighteenth week of my first pregnancy very well because my husband and I used our spring break to travel back to our home town for a little vacation. That was the week that I chopped off my long curly locks. I also bought my first pair of maternity jeans at gap maternity during my eighteenth week (we did not have a gap maternity in our … Continue reading

Twelve Months Post Partum: An Exercising Journey Part II

By week two of my exercising excursions, I was ready to try something a little more difficult but still low impact.  I started switching off every other day with a total body toning and strengthening work (because of the stomach down mat work, I was not able to do this workout after week eighteen of my pregnancy).  It was a really hard workout and I was happy to only be doing it every other day! Two weeks into my new post partum workout routine and six weeks post partum, I started feeling a little more tone in my abdominal muscles. … Continue reading

My Sister

My sister and I have always been really close. She is a mere eighteen months younger than me. We have done many things together as children, through high school, and through college. Both of were married right after our graduation from college and both of our husbands pursued graduate degrees that took us to different states putting us more than one thousand miles apart for the first time in our lives. Life continued as it does but we were only able to see each other once or twice a year. During our time apart, after I had my first baby, … Continue reading

Understanding Morning Sickness

If you are experiencing morning sickness (or afternoon sickness, evening sickness, or even all day sickness) as part of your pregnancy you may be wondering why. You may also be wondering who it happens to, when it will end, and whether there is anything you can do about it. Here are a few basics to help you understand and cope with the mystery that is morning sickness. Why do pregnant women get morning sickness? There is no definitive answer to this question, but it has been studied and a number of possible causes have been identified. The hormonal changes of … Continue reading

Are You Getting All Your Tax Deductions?

Tomorrow is April 1st. For those of us who have put off doing our taxes, the next two weeks will be a race to the deadline. Now where exactly did I put all of those medical bills? Talk about increasing your stress! As a single parent there are many ways you can benefit when you do your taxes. Many divorced couples take turns claiming the kids each year, this can make it a little tougher when it’s not your year to claim them. However, when you can claim them you benefit not only from their deduction but also because you … Continue reading

A Play Date

Every once in a while, a few times a month, I try to schedule a time for my son (and daughter) to get together with other children their age. Most often our play dates are with their cousins (brother and sister) the boy is ten months older than my son and the girl is four weeks older than my daughter (who is only three months old). Every few months I plan a play date with one of my long time friends, who has three boys. Recently, I was able to plan a play date with a mom that I met … Continue reading

Sunday Mornings

Sunday mornings are my favorite time. Ever since getting divorced is seems like Sunday morning is really the only time Hailey and I can slow down and just enjoy each other’s company. When she was younger there was always so much to do, the weeks were packed and Saturday was super busy with all the household stuff that was neglected all week, but Sunday was our day. Sunday has always been the day we get to slow down, we have a huge breakfast and spend most of the day in our pajamas. We don’t always “do” things together, although sometimes … Continue reading

Boy Scouts Can Earn the Genealogy Merit Badge

Does your family include a few Boy Scouts? Genealogists will probably enjoy guiding their sons, grandsons, nephews, or the other young Boy Scouts in their family through the Genealogy Merit Badge. It’s a great way to inspire little genealogists to take up the hobby when they get older. In order for a child to join the Boy Scouts, he has to be at least ten years old, (but younger than the age of eighteen). He has to have completed fifth grade. Or, he has to have earned the Arrow of Light Award, which is the highest award in Cub Scouting. … Continue reading

Maternity Clothes Shopping

I had vowed to wait to go maternity clothes shopping until I was visibly showing. I was doing really well and had not bought a single maternity item. Them my dear pregnant sister came to visit. How could sisters who are only eighteen months apart in age and both pregnant not go maternity shopping together? So I gave in at twenty weeks and went maternity clothes shopping at my favorite local maternity clothing boutique! I had promised myself that I was just going to look and not buy because at this point I am still barely showing and most clothes … Continue reading

The Ultrasound

As soon as our third prenatal came to a close, we were on our way to the ultrasound clinic where we were meeting our midwife. We had been excitedly awaiting our ultrasound date for three weeks (what a great birthday present for my husband; to see his unborn child via ultrasound!)! Upon arrival we quickly filled out the required paperwork and waited for our midwife to arrive and for the ultrasound technician to get the room prepared for our ultrasound. In a matter minutes we were ushered into the ultrasound room. Both my husband and I noticed right away the … Continue reading
