First Trimester Cravings and Smells

It almost seems to me that from the moment I conceive, my cravings and smells go into overdrive. Not to mention my acne. At least, that has been my experience in the past.

With my first pregnancy, one of my all time favorite foods became something that made me sick. Cheddar cheese. I love cheese, and want it on pretty much everything I eat, so imagine my surprise when the pregnancy sickness kicked in, and the thought of cheddar cheese made my stomach churn. But, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, something I normally don't care for all that much, became my best friend. In fact, my husband would fix me one at night to have on my nightstand because I would wake up starving, and I ate in the middle of the night to avoid being sick the next morning from hunger.

With my second pregnancy, I became borderline obsessed with avocados. It had always been a food I had loved, but my passion for it increased tremendously. I mean, it was scary to run out, because that meant a run to the store. And, as much of a cliche as it is, pickles sure were extra yummy to me then.

Let's not forget to mention the slightest smell can make you sick. Pregnant women do have an increased sense of smell. Some people believe it is an innate way that we can recognize the smell of our own baby. But, since that isn't really a primal need anymore in our society, why must we still suffer?

Pregnancy really is fascinating. To think that you are growing another life inside of you is amazing, but if you think of all the changes your body is going through as well, it truly is a miracle that we ever return to "normal" again.
