Make Your Own Humorous Pregnancy T-shirts

You’ve probably seen the cute maternity t-shirts that have funny slogans like “I’m a Baby Machine.” Sometimes the shirts feature puns or funny pictures. The only problem I had with these shirts when I was pregnant was how expensive they are. Some of the shirts I found were running for $40. That is just too much for a shirt that I’m only going to wear a few times during the next 6 months. Making your own funny t-shirts is easy if you have a few basic, solid color maternity shirts and iron-on-transfer paper for your ink jet or laser printer. … Continue reading

New Maternity Line at Forever 21

I am in love. I recently browsed through Forever 21’s newest line, “Love 21 Maternity,” and I am hooked. I am already looking forward to the next pregnancy just so I can wear these clothes. The drop waist tunic is so stylish. The tanks and tees are super long. (That’s a big plus considering I always had a problem with coverage near the end of my pregnancy.) The yoga pants look really comfortable with the soft fold-over waist band. The leggings are cute and super affordable at just $12.80. The entire line is low priced, especially compared to typical prices … Continue reading

More Ways to Save on Your Maternity Wardrobe

I’ve talked a lot about saving money on maternity clothes on this blog. There is no reason to blow all sorts of cash (or credit) on clothes you can only wear once. If you are lucky enough to be pregnant during the same season twice, you’ll be able to get a second use, but it’s more likely that by the time you are able to wear them again, some of them will be out of style. One way to prevent this is to purchase maternity clothes that are both timeless and “season-less.” Skip the bulky sweaters and mini shorts, and … Continue reading

How to Make Your Own Maternity Jeans

It’s easy enough to go to a maternity clothing store and pick up a pair of jeans, but you’re limited to the brands they offer and you’ll end up paying the higher price. With basic sewing skills, a favorite pair of jeans and a stretch camisole, you can create your own maternity jeans for a fraction of the cost. You will need a sewing machine, a pair of jeans, scissors and a camisole you don’t mind ruining. Pick a pair of jeans that fit when the fly is open. Remember that your hips might spread a little bit during your … Continue reading

The Maternity Shuffle

Contrary to what you might think after reading the title, this blog is not about dancing pregnant woman! For the past few years, my circle of friends has been churning out a lot of babies. I conceived around the same week one friend gave birth, and that same friend conceived again around the same week I gave birth. Meanwhile a trunk load of stretchy pants, empire waist shirts and other maternity clothes has been passed around like a hot potato. That is the maternity shuffle. Buying a whole new wardrobe of maternity clothes can get really expensive, and in this … Continue reading

How to Save Money On Your Maternity Wardrobe (and still look great!)

Considering you only need to wear maternity clothes for a season, it’s hard to justify spending a lot of money on your maternity wardrobe. Fortunately there are ways to spend less and still look great! Borrow When I was pregnant with my son, I had two friends who were pretty close in size to me, and they were gracious enough to allow me to borrow their maternity wardrobes. I ended up with a packed closet and more maternity clothes than I could ever imagine. Some of the clothes were hard to return because I loved them so much! If you … Continue reading

Week Twenty Four

Week twenty four began with much welcomed cooler weather which supplied incredible motivation and energy. The sluggishness that the heat tends to impose, particularly on pregnant women, vanished overnight and for the first time in months we were able to turn the air conditioning off and open the windows to air out the house. The days of my twenty fourth week began with cool, almost brisk, breezes making my customary hot breakfast of three eggs and sausage (in the form of an omelet by adding sautéed potato, onion, and red pepper to the mix), and hot latte particularly appealing and … Continue reading

Eighteen Weeks

As I enter my eighteenth week of pregnancy, there are a lot of things on my mind as well as events that are getting closer and closer (more quickly than I anticipated). I remember the eighteenth week of my first pregnancy very well because my husband and I used our spring break to travel back to our home town for a little vacation. That was the week that I chopped off my long curly locks. I also bought my first pair of maternity jeans at gap maternity during my eighteenth week (we did not have a gap maternity in our … Continue reading

Product Review: Sound Beginnings

The sound of the electric beater would make my son startle when he was in the womb. The swell of a hymn on Sunday morning would seem to send him into a happy dance, making my stomach look like a bag of popcorn in the microwave. Daddy’s voice would almost always earn a kick or a punch. It was pretty clear he could hear us and I would experiment with different sounds to see what he would do. Sometimes I would sing or listen to music with a driving beat just to see how much I could get him to … Continue reading
