When Your Husband Doesn’t Seem Excited

First of all, this is not a generalization of all men. I have known plenty of men who show a lot of excitement about their wife’s pregnancy. But I have also talked to a lot of women who expressed frustration over their husband’s seeming lack of enthusiasm over the pregnancy. They may be happy, but they are just not as excited as the woman expects them to be, which of course gets the wheels turning in her head and pretty soon she’s convinced he doesn’t really want to be a dad yet. Then the drama begins. Sometimes, there are real … Continue reading

TTC: Should You Tell?

I just read an interview in the Chicago Sun-Times with Giuliana Rancic, one half of the Style Channel reality show “Giuliana & Bill.” This season of the show is incredibly personal and the couple is sharing their TTC journey with the whole world. I don’t think there is anything inherently wrong with telling people that you are trying to get pregnant. It is a personal decision based on whether you are prepared to deal with the questions and the possibility of “public” heartbreak. I didn’t realize it until after the fact, but my decision to tell our parents that we … Continue reading

Can a Baby Save Your Marriage?

My last article began by introducing you to a story that Beth is discussing in Mental Health. In the story a wife only has sex with her husband to get pregnant. As her story turns out there is reason for the woman’s actions. My article also began talking about partners that try to conceive without the knowledge or approval of the other mate. I described some of the various scenarios that I had heard of happening. In some cases the partners trick or are not truthful to their mate about getting pregnant because they long so desperately for a baby. … Continue reading

Telling an Ex You are Pregnant

Sharing the news of an unplanned pregnancy is never easy. It becomes even more complicated when the father of the baby is your ex partner. The more time that has passed since the split, the more difficult it becomes to break the news. If your ex is in a new relationship or the split was not at all amicable, you may feel even more unsure about telling him. You may even be contemplating not telling him at all. This would most likely be a mistake. As the father of the baby, he has the right to know. Your baby has … Continue reading

When Your Partner Experiences Pregnancy Symptoms

Is your partner feeling sick in the mornings or gaining weight with you? If so, he may be experiencing Couvades Syndrome. Couvade means “to hatch” in French. Those who have experienced Couvades Syndrome are not convinced. To these couples, whether the cause is physical or emotional, the symptoms are very real. Further study is being done in this area. In the meantime, the debate about the authenticity of Couvades syndrome continues. Some men … Continue reading

For the past few generations, fathers have been welcomed into the delivery room and have taken an active role in helping their wives cope during labor. There are still some men out there who would love to go back to those days. For a variety of reasons, these men have no desire to witness the birth of their children. … Continue reading
