Would You Give Birth On The Internet?

The list of events that people choose to broadcast live on the internet is growing. A perfect example is an acquaintance of mine who broadcast his wedding via live feed on his blog for all his readers to see. I also recall a local celebrity switching on a web cam in his apartment for hours at at time, Ed TV style, (though I don’t remember why.) People are putting more and more of their personal lives out there on the internet for everyone to see. Sharing personal stories through “vlogging” (video blogging) is about to hit a whole new level. … Continue reading

Let’s Talk About The Four-Minute Delivery!

Here’s a fun story that I just read about, and think I will share in case you haven’t heard it: January 30, 2007 brought an unexpected surprise to one Missouri woman, who ended up with the “dream delivery” of pregnant women everywhere. A mere four minutes after Christina Palczynksi’s water broke, her little Mary Ellen was born. Christina’s husband had called 911 and the operator walked him through the steps of helping to deliver his daughter – right on the kitchen floor! The family was amazed at such a quick delivery, especially since Christina’s last child took 19 hours to … Continue reading

Let’s Talk About Water Birth: Fluid Pain Relief

My second daughter was born at home via water delivery. Today is her three-month birthday. Today I rejoice in her magical birth. I had planned a water birth at home from the very beginning. I only wish that I had delivered my first in the same way, but being a young first time mother, it wasn’t something that I knew enough about. In the almost five years before becoming pregnant again, I had come across the … Continue reading

Let’s Talk About Sharing Our Birth Stories!

Birth is an unpredictable, unimaginable experience. It is like a snowflake – never the same thing twice, or for any two women. It transforms everyone that experiences it in its most natural form, and those who unfortunately do not may be left with a misunderstanding of its beauty. Nevertheless, birth stories are passed on through the generations in many families, and have been done so for centuries on end. Some women are put off of birth by the way it is portrayed in the media, or from a personal negative birth experience. They may not enjoy sharing their personal stories … Continue reading

Let’s Talk About the Affect of Prior Birth Trauma

A negative birth experience can typically do one of two things to the person that endured it: It can put them off of birth entirely, or it can compel them to strive for and demand a better subsequent birth. Being put off of birth can translate to several different avenues of a woman’s pregnancy and delivery. For one thing, a woman may experience anxiety concerning delivering over the course of pregnancy, which can affect her well-being. She may also be very fearful of birth, and fear can translate to pain, affecting the success of labor. Or she may decide to … Continue reading
