Changes In Teens’ Attitude About Pregnancy

The latest news concerning teen pregnancy is a little troubling. The CDC reports that teens are less worried about pregnancy than in the past. While the percentage of teens having sex has not changed much since 2002, the attitude towards having a child out of wedlock has changed quite a bit. The majority of teens, according to the survey, believe it is okay for an unmarried woman to have a baby. MTV’s 16 and Pregnant is a new show that follows the life of a teen throughout her pregnancy. Each episode depicts a different teen’s trials of dealing with relationships, high school, parents, jobs and becoming a parent. The show seems fairly accurate in documenting the problems that teen moms face. Many of the girls end up dropping out of high school or switching to an alternative high school because of the pressures they face from other students and struggling to make ends meet. More on King Middle’s Decision to Give out Birth Control

Previously, I discussed what I had discovered about King Middle School in Portland deciding to allow the clinic to give out birth control pills and patches to its students. It seems that not everyone in the town is as happy with the decision as the school officials. The vote by the board of education was won with a 7 to 2 win. The decision was to allow the city ran clinic that is located on the school grounds to prescribe birth control pills and patches to the students. Middle School Gives out Free Birth Control

Paul Harvey shocked me a little today when he announced that a Portland middle school had decided to offer free birth control pills and patches to its students. These students range from ages 11 to 13. After his announcement, I had to search the web and find out more. This is what I found.
