Let's Talk About the Mirror, the Crown and the Miracle

by Sara Denomme | More from this Blogger

Aside from the experience as a whole, there will be some specific magical elements present in the delivery room.

The Mirror - This item is often found in delivery rooms, inconspicuously set to the side and given little thought throughout most of labor. It will present itself to you at the most awkward moment, where you will most likely expect it the least and initially be slightly annoyed at its appearance. Its purpose will then become clear to you: It is merely a temporary talisman. You may use it simply for encouragement if you so choose, or you may use it to briefly glimpse what the future holds for you. In the mirror's future you will see:

The Crown - This will often present itself for some time, before revealing the next magical element. The crown is necessary in most cases, for hard work and determination are the milestones to the next stage, and it is one of the most difficult tasks you have faced yet. It will be over in a flash, however, and when it is you will be presented with:

The Miracle - The miracle may encompass both the mirror and the crown. There you are: The gleam of sweat on your brow and your eyes squeezed tight in concentration. Someone offers you the mirror. In your mind's eye, you imagine what it must look like from another perspective. You wonder silently if it's something you would really want to see. Then you look up, and before you is a reflection of the crown. You close your eyes again for a moment, then open them again. If someone offers you a glimpse of the future, can you help but look? Then someone says "Here it comes!" and you're whole being fills with an indescribable feeling. Is it fear? Is it adrenaline? Is it love?

It's love, and it's a miracle. You can take a deep, unhurried breath. After what seemed an eternity, the future is finally here. And it's beautiful.

Did you watch with a mirror as your baby crowned?
