Clinical Pregnancy Less Likely When Dad is Overweight

There is a very interesting article in the news today. There was a study done recently that shows that couples who are using IVF to conceive are less likely to get pregnant if the dad is overweight. According to the study, which was done by Dr. Zaher Merhi of Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Medical Center in New York City, for every increase of 5 in the dad’s BMI, the couple’s chances of getting pregnant decrease by a whopping 28%. Lose the Weight Before You Conceive

A new study shows that obese women are more likely to retain some of their pregnancy weight gain postpartum. Researchers from the Kaiser Permanente Center for Health Research studied 1,700 obese women that gave birth between 2000 and 2005. Seventy percent of them exceeded the suggested weight gain for their weight category; those who surpassed this weight limit by 15 pounds or more had a more difficult time losing the weight after they had their babies (over an 18 month period).
