Make Your Shower a Safer Experience

Pregnancy interferes with your morning shower, too? Oh yes, it does. In the beginning, it's not a problem. It's when you can't see your toes that your morning scrubba dubba gets complicated. Mix a wet slippery shower floor, a shift in your center of gravity and a propensity to fall on your rear, and you've got a recipe for disaster. Taking a bath would be a good alternative if it wasn't so darn difficult to get in and out of the water with a twenty pound weight strapped to your middle, so to speak. If you're looking for some tips to make your morning routine more relaxing and less like Hollywood stunt work, you've come to the right place.

First of all, take care of the obvious and make sure your shower is slip proof. You have lots of different options. You can put down a plastic bath mat; you can find them in all different colors, designs and sizes at pretty much any department store. Or you can purchase individual decals and make your own design. The latter might be a better option if you have an odd shaped shower or tub.

Clear out your shower stall of all the extra empty bottles. How many times have you bumped that near-empty bottle of conditioner and it fell to your feet. The last thing you want is to trip over a bottle. If you have any benches, clear those off too and scrub them clean. It's better to use these to shave your legs and keep your balance than to store products you don't really need taking up valuable real estate in your shower.

But a long handled back scrubber and use it for your feet, too. Try to avoid bending all the way over in the shower when you're pregnant.

If you don't have something to hold onto in your shower, you may want to consider installing some type of bar. You can buy one that uses simple suction cups for about $20 online.
