The Baby Shower Part II

Things were definitely coming together for the baby shower and we only had a few more things to do before the guests began to arrive. Soon enough our oldest sister arrived with the punch bowl. Since it was fifteen minutes before the shower was to begin, I instructed one of my younger sisters on how to make the punch. The end result is a delightful pink colored beverage and many guests comment on how good it tastes! Everything is ready and the guests begin to arrive. My very pregnant sister is in place near the door to greet and chat … Continue reading

The Baby Shower Part I

The day is finally here for my sister’s baby shower. After months of planning, I finally get to see if all my efforts turn out the way I expect from the cupcakes to the games to the prizes. Will the baby shower be a success or a failure? I arrived at my sister’s mother-in-law’s house at ten o’clock with my two of my younger sisters. I talked briefly to the woman of the house and then set to work with the help of my sisters bringing in all the “stuff” for the baby shower. Once that was done, my sisters … Continue reading

Baby Shower Day

I haven’t said it before but I’ll say it now: it’s raining babies! Not literally, of course, but babies are coming at us from everywhere. I’m certain this just generally happens after a period of time, when all of the family members of two households become of marrying age. It’s inevitable and it’s wonderful. Children are everywhere. Maternity wear is everywhere I look and growing belly’s are expanding to fill them. It’s a wonderful time to be alive. Not only are we expecting our second child but my sister-in-law is expecting as well. As we’ve finally returned back near our … Continue reading

Planning a Baby Shower Part V

Today is the day of the baby shower for my thirty three weeks pregnant sister. The preparations for this baby shower have been ongoing for the past several months. Things really were put into high gear about three weeks ago with the writing and sending of the baby shower invitations. The planning continued yesterday as I made six dozen cupcakes, got together all my supplies for the baby shower games and items needed for preparing and frosting the six dozen cupcakes, I picked up the flowers for both the door prizes and cupcake decoration, and many other miscellaneous items (like … Continue reading

Planning a Baby Shower Part IV

I am still in in the middle of planning a baby shower for my sister who is thirty-three weeks pregnant. She and her husband live out of state and will be traveling “home” for a quick visit, which means this is the only opportunity to throw her a baby shower for her first child. The invitations have been written, addressed, stamped (with floral stamps), and sent. I have even received a few RSVP’s; four out of fifty so far. While the invitations were initially my biggest concern, now that there written and sent, I can focus my energy on more … Continue reading

Planning a Baby Shower II

I am in the midst of planning a baby shower for my younger sister. Perhaps this is an odd thing to write about for a “pregnancy blog” but since I am also pregnant, I have found that pregnancy also affects one’s ability to plan a baby shower. My sister and I were always close growing up especially in junior high and high school and we remained close through college, but for the past five years we have lived more than just miles apart. Now that my husband and I have finally moved back to our home town, my sister and … Continue reading

What Happens at a Baby Shower?

“What are you supposed to do at a baby shower?” That is probably the question that runs through everyone’s mind the first time they have to plan one. Unless you have been to several, you may not know exactly what is expected. Is it just like a bridal shower? Are you expected to serve food? Does the mom-to-be open all the presents at the shower or later on like at a wedding? Do you have to play games? These are all valid questions, but they all assume one thing: that there is one right way to throw a baby shower. … Continue reading

Have a Pop Party

When it comes to throwing a kiddie party you don’t want to compete with the moms at my daughter’s school. Oh.my.word. These ladies don’t mess around. It’s all or nothing with these shindigs, and by all I mean call MTV because My Super Sweet 16 can’t hold a candle to some of the pimped out parties my six-year-old has attended in the last few months. Remember when I described the coloring page activity I had at my daughter’s sixth birthday party? The pages were there to keep the kids entertained while waiting for the rest of the guests to arrive. … Continue reading

Planning a Theme Party

I am a survivor. I hosted a party for 25, five year olds, and lived to write about it. Now that the party is over, I can honestly say that the anticipation I felt in the days leading up to my daughter’s sixth birthday bash was much worse than the shindig itself. The key to my survival: Family, friends… and a solid theme. My daughter chose a jungle safari theme with a heavy emphasis on wild animals for her birthday party. Once we settled on a theme, the invitations, decorations and party favors fell into place. Here are some of … Continue reading

How to Have Fun at Your Own Party

Party planning is no picnic. What’s more, once the party gets started, many hosts find that they are too busy refilling snack bowls, pouring drinks, and ensuring that guests are having a good time, that they barely get the chance to partake in the festivities. When hosting a summer shindig or a gathering at any point during the year, it is important to remember that you are a guest too. When planning a party, take time to figure out how you can mingle and enjoy the fruits of your labor. If friends are willing, ask them for help. Most pals … Continue reading
