Pregnancy’s Affect on the Holidays

We realized as soon as we discovered that we were expecting back in March that this pregnancy would bring with lots of different changes and challenges. The inevitable anticipation of the high holiday season would be unavoidable impacted by my pregnancy. While we thought about the stress of preparing for the new baby and the holidays, I was concerned that I might not have the energy or motivation to even make preparations for the holidays in the midst of baby preparations. While I did not anticipate any complications with this pregnancy, pregnancies can be unpredictable especially the ultimate arrival of … Continue reading

Thanksgiving and Pregnancy Part II

Now that all my Thanksgiving preparations were complete and all my pies where baked, my family and I were ready to spend the day with our families. The first stop was to my parents house for a more intimate dinner. We headed over at around nine in the morning so that we could spend a good bit of time with my parents and siblings before heading over to my husband’s parent’s house. All but one sister were in attendance. I brought an “old fashioned” pumpkin pie for dessert and some freshly baked pumpkin bread as a breakfast/pre-dinner hors d’ oeuvre. … Continue reading

The Second Week Post-Partum Part II (Christmas)

While I was downstairs making things ready for Christmas morning (Christmas presents under the tree and stockings filled and re-hung), my husband (who was supposed to be helping me get things ready) fell asleep while trying to get our son to fall asleep. The last present to bring up was a child size table and chair (the table needed to be assembled), with my fairly new post-partum body, I was not even going to attempt to carry the large cumbersome box containing the table up the stairs to the living room. Luckily, my husband awoke from his hour nap just … Continue reading

The Second Week Post-Partum Part I

While my first week post-partum was spent taking it easy (to the best of my ability given my “get it done” personality). By the second week I was ready and almost needing to get out of the house. The opportunity presented itself very soon with an invitation to dinner with my husband’s parents and siblings. Leaving the house for the first time to socialize can be a bit intimidating after one has just had a baby but at eight days post partum, I was feeling really good. I have a very small transitional wardrobe from after my son’s birth. One … Continue reading

The First Week Post-Partum

The first week after giving birth to my daughter was filled with an array of a new kind business. I was not running errands or wrapping Christmas presents. I was busy changing my newborns diapers (and my own maxi pads … it is just part of giving birth). With changing diapers came changing outfits many of which where quite large on my seven and a half pound baby. I was busy sitting and nursing my newborn daughter and my uterus was busy contracting down. I was busy not doing housework. It actually takes a lot of work to tell some … Continue reading

The Day After Thanksgiving Part II

All of our Christmas treasures were packed neatly and carefully away last year with anticipation for the Christmas seasons to follow. Inside were coordinating red, green, and gold globes, snowflakes, and bird ornaments; along with strings of lights, festive garlands, personalized stockings, gift boxes, wrapping paper, ribbon, and stocking holders. Given our new and different space and layout, the decorating will require some creative ingenuity. Without a fireplace and mantel, we will have to find a different location to hang the stockings and the garland. Our living room is much smaller so we were mindful not to get a tree … Continue reading

Our Ninth Prenatal Visit

It has only been two weeks since my last prenatal visit. The end is in sight! Weekly visits will follow until our daughter is born! As we approach the holidays, I seem to get busier and busier. So to ensure that I could get my workout in, I awoke early, ate a Greek yogurt and did my prenatal pilates before our visit with the midwife. Both my husband and son accompanied me to this visit (we had no impending package deliveries). We entered the cozy carriage house, our son took the opportunity to run around in the open space, while … Continue reading

Tagging Our Christmas Tree

Last week I spent a good bit of time researching Christmas trees. I discovered that there are lots of different varieties some of which are not available in our region of the country. I found a website the outlined the different types of trees and where they grew and then looked them up to see which kind would work best for us. I narrowed it down to three varieties: Fraser Fir, Balsam Fir, and Blue Spruce. I then contacted several local tree farms to see what varieties of Christmas trees they carried. As it turns out there are two farms … Continue reading

Week Thirty Four

It is kind of hard to believe that another week has come and gone. These last few weeks of pregnancy are going to fly by as well! During my thirty fourth week of pregnancy I found renewed focus and energy. I have undertaken a lot of projects lately and really feel like I have gotten a lot of things done this week. I have continued to shop and wrap Christmas gifts and I only have a few more items to buy and wrap for my husband and son. Our daughter is getting a stocking. I could wrap all the clothes … Continue reading
