Help a Pregnant Woman Out

Have one of these statements ever come out of your mouth? “Could you clean the toilet? I’m not supposed to inhale the fumes from those harsh cleaners because I’m pregnant.” “You’re gonna have to spray the lawn. I can’t because I’m pregnant. Weed killer is dangerous for unborn babies.” “I can’t shovel the driveway. I might slip and fall. Falling is dangerous when you’re pregnant.” “Could you pick up the sock I dropped on the floor? I can’t reach it. I’m pregnant.” It became the joke in our family that I couldn’t do anything because I was pregnant. Pretty soon … Continue reading

Pregnant? Skip the Chemicals and Clean Naturally!

Pregnancy got me out of cleaning the toilets for eight months because of the powerful and pungent cleaner we use to remove the orange ring left by excess minerals in our hard water. I miss that excuse! There are a lot of cleaning agents out there that pregnant women should avoid because of the fumes. Other household chemicals, like weed killer, should also not be used by a pregnant woman. Most of us, however, can’t just stop cleaning. The solution is to use natural cleaners. Green cleaning isn’t just good for the environment; it’s good for pregnant moms and kids, … Continue reading

When we learn we are pregnant, suddenly our attention is focused on many aspects of our lives and possible effects on the baby. One common concern is the use of cleaning products. Safer Cleaning Methods for Pregnant Women

Pregnant women often worry about using household cleaning products. It turns out; there may be reason for this fear. There are a wide variety of chemicals used in various household cleaning products. Some of these are irritating to the lungs or skin. Others are carcinogens and a few can cause birth defects with heavy exposure. Nitrobenzene, which is found in furniture polish, has been linked to birth defects and cancer. Other ingredients such as formaldehyde and perchloroethylene are also suspected to … Continue reading

The Effect of Pesticides in Pregnancy

Pesticides have been in the news for many years as a cause of a wide range of health issues. In areas known for high concentrations of pesticides, studies have documented negative effects on growing fetuses. All pregnant women should be aware of the risks posed by pesticides. The degree of risk to the fetus is directly related to the amount of exposure. Some of the effects of pesticide exposure include neural tube defects in the baby and a higher rate of cleft palate. With higher exposure, the risks can include defects of the heart and limbs. Exposure to pesticides is … Continue reading

Free Pure Essentials Samples

Many of us are trying to use more natural products in the home. We use vinegar for a lot of our cleaning needs, gentler soaps in our bathrooms, and natural air fresheners. Now Proctor & Gamble is bringing “natural” to the laundry room as well. Their new Tide product contains baking soda and citrus extracts. I’ve always found regular Tide to be a little harsh for my skin, so I’m looking forward to the kindler, gentler version. They’re revising Downy, too. It now comes with Aloe or Chamomile. It will be interesting to see how aloe can be incorporated into … Continue reading
