Our Daughter’s Baptism Part III

With the house clean and the food mostly prepared (the Caesar salad would be thrown together while the Shepherd’s Pie is baking in the oven), I turned my attention to ironing the baptismal gown. I got this particular gown for my son’s baptism over two years ago and it had only been worn once after that, three months ago, by my goddaughter. I had spent a couple of days trying to get a some yellow spots out of the gown and finally succeeded with a bleach stick and a thorough washing. Now the cotton gown with pearl embellishments needed a … Continue reading

A Day of Thanksgiving Preparation

The day has finally come when all my research and recipe testing, as a pregnancy task/urge, will be put to use for some good “old fashioned” Thanksgiving pies! It is an epic journey of sorts, especially at thirty six weeks of pregnancy. I am a perfectionist by nature and pregnancy has only increased my need to do things in the best way possible. Pies have been a long time hobby of mine, although in the past few years I have not had much occasion to bake them. After acquiring a tub of lard (rendered from chemical free pig fat), my … Continue reading

Week Thirty One

The weeks are really starting to fly by now just as I knew they would (I am writing this at thirty three weeks!). Week thirty one had its ups and downs. Overall week thirty one of my pregnancy has been a week of adjustments. Week thirty one began with a sense of urgency to get things back to “normal.” After being out of town for a week visiting my sister, I really struggled getting back into my routine. I found myself lacking the motivation to get my projects and tasks done. Normalcy was not to be had especially with my … Continue reading

Spending Time With My Sister Part VIII

While we were all sleeping, my family arrived early in the morning after driving through the night. I awoke a little earlier than usual so that I could make my son and I breakfast before the families came over to visit. My sister’s in-laws come over first to squeeze in some solitary baby time before my mom, sisters, and brother took over the baby holding (my dad waited patiently for “his turn” as did my sister’s father-in-law). My sister and I left the merriment for a few minutes to figure out what she would wear to the baptism with her … Continue reading

Spending Time With My Sister Part V

On the fourth day of our visit, we had early morning plans. I made breakfast while my sister nursed the baby and my son asked to hold the baby repeatedly. After a breakfast of an egg omelet and an orange, we got the kids ready for our early morning outing. First, stop of the morning was my sister’s chiropractic adjustment. The baby was also getting an adjustment. While, they were at their appointment, my son and I went to the convenient store across the street to buy more diapers for my son. We then returned to the chiropractor’s office just … Continue reading

Spending Time With My Sister Part IV

It is amazing how time gets away from us. We made a really quick stop at the grocery store; both my sister and I have very quick gaits and we were moving through the store to get the items that we needed. Upon our return, we realized that we really did not have very much time to make the frosting and eat dinner. As soon as we walked in the apartment I got to work making the cream cheese frosting and my sister nursed the baby. After the muffins were iced, we rushed to eat as much of our dinner … Continue reading

Spending Time With My Sister Part III

On the third day of visiting my sister her husband was off to work/class bright and early before we awoke. Once I awoke, I began making breakfast for the three of us (my usual egg omelet). We ate breakfast together after which I did my prenatal Pilate’s while my sister nursed the baby and my son read books. Our plan for the day was to get some baking done in part for preparation for a brown bag craft night for us ladies and in part to use up some of my sister’s orchard fresh apples. Baking in someone else’s house … Continue reading
