Unless You Are a Guy You Can Get Pregnant

Seven. That’s how many years it took before my kid asked the question. You know; the one that begins with “How” and ends with “do mommies get pregnant?” Before getting married and giving birth, I wondered how and when I would discuss the birds and the bees with my children. Well, I found out the when: July 2012. Unfortunately, I didn’t quite figure out the “how.” Sadly, I was not prepared to get into the nitty-gritty reproductive details with my second grader, so I mumbled something about God being in charge of giving the gift of life, blah, blah, blah, … Continue reading

Statistics for Getting Pregnant

I was watching a local talk/news show this morning, and was interested in their story, “Why Can’t I Get Pregnant?” . I was surprised by some of the statistics quoted. Some women out there that have problems with infertility may already know these stats, but as a Mom without that problem I had never heard them. I’m more interested in them now because I’m a little older. I want to know my odds of getting pregnant again if I decide to have my third. Women often get frustrated with not getting pregnant right away. But, according to the local OBGYN … Continue reading

Planned Parenthood Made a Period Tracker App

There are many health apps out there that can be used to keep track of one’s health. Some health trackers do not include a section that tracks periods. Planned Parenthood created a period tracker app called Spot On. It is focused on tracking your period – and more! Planned Parenthood is a health care provider that specializes in reproductive health care. In addition, they offer a wide range of safe, reliable health care – the majority of which is preventative health care. In other words, the Spot On period tracker app has information that comes directly from the world-class sex … Continue reading

Introduction

Dear Families.com family, I am a new blogger here at families.com but not new to the site. My husband has been the fatherhood blogger for almost two years and I am excited that I will be contributing blogs about pregnancy. My hope is to share some of my pregnancy experiences, insights, challenges, and triumphs. My husband recounted his experience of the preparation we made for the birth of our son and all that followed. I’d like to recount my experience of my first pregnancy and hopefully soon blog about a second pregnancy as it progresses! I am the second oldest … Continue reading

Testing, Testing 123

When I decided to get pregnant the second time around, I was so excited. With my first pregnancy, it took 4 months before we got pregnant, but the second time, it took one shot. Yes, one!! We are very fortunate to not have had any issues with trying to conceive up to this point in our lives. So many of our friends and family do, so we do not take it for granted. But, I have a little problem. I’m obsessed with taking pregnancy tests! I have always been very regular with my periods. Before the birth of my second, … Continue reading

DFW Family Expo

The DFW Family Expo was on Saturday. I haven’t researched to see if there’s anything comparable to this in California, but we didn’t have children when we still lived there. We had been actively trying to conceive for years without success, so the chances of my looking for, paying attention to, or attending a huge day-long event devoted to all things babies, children, and families were very small. I attended my first DFW Family Expo two years ago. I learned about the Expo because of my relationship with my mom’s group and Metroplex Baby and Kids. When we went last … Continue reading

What Medications are Safe During Pregnancy?

One of the worst parts of being pregnant is when YOU get sick. Knowing which medicines to take can be confusing! One thing I hate even more is when you are trying to conceive and get sick. You aren’t sure if you are pregnant or not in the first week or two, and you think, “Should I? or Shouldn’t I?” I always err on the side of caution. I don’t want to risk anything!! But, once you know you are pregnant, why does it have to be so confusing? Some doctors are more conservative than others on advising you on … Continue reading

Reasons to Fire Your Doctor During Pregnancy

With my first pregnancy, I hated my doctor. With my second, I loved my doctor. I had female OBGYNs both times. First, let me tell you what I loved about my doctor during my second pregnancy. She was calming. She did not overreact about things. This was exactly what I needed. I am a worrier, so having a doctor that was not was very helpful. It was easy to schedule appointments and I never waited more than 10 minutes. She listened to me ramble. Never once did I feel like she was going to rush out of the room, or … Continue reading

My Favorite Pregnancy Book

Maybe it is not anymore, but when I was pregnant, it seemed like “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” was the most popular pregnancy book out there. I wasn’t a big fan though. There were lots of questions in that book that they answered that did not apply to me. Although, there was a lot of helpful information, the format of the book did not work for me. I wanted a little more detail about how my baby was growing, along with answers to every pregnant mom’s questions. So, with my second I went looking for another book, and found … Continue reading

Baby Shower Alternatives

Are you wondering what to expect for your very first baby shower? Or maybe no one has offered to throw you one yet? I have never been a huge fan, but if you are pregnant, you will most likely be thrown a shower. Don’t get me wrong, I love getting gifts, but being the center of attention, when you already feel like a giant pregnant lady, can sometimes be intimidating. For me, when I was pregnant with my first, I was living out of state from any family, and did not know many people. Luckily, a girl from church threw … Continue reading
