5 Things To Do While On Bed Rest

So, your doctor has put you on bed rest. If you’ve already watched everything in your DVR and seen every rerun of Bringing Home Baby, I’ve got you covered with a list of five things you can do while you’re stuck in bed or on the couch. 1. Start a blog The internet, despite how expansive it is, can still get pretty boring after a couple days. Nothing beats boredom better than creativity. Share your experience with bed rest and your pregnancy on your blog. You might find other women in the same situation. 2. Learn how to knit or … Continue reading

Surviving Your Last Weeks of Pregnancy: Sleeping Arrangements

You only have a few weeks to go until your baby arrives, and if you’re like I was, you’ve probably got six loads of baby laundry going through the wash for the second time, a list of 25 things for your husband to clean and organize, a wet mop in one hand, and a feather duster in the other. That’s in addition to the vacuuming, scrubbing, and organizing you did last night until 3am, right? Unfortunately, all that hard work and preparation commonly referred to as “nesting” is robbing you of precious sleep. Nothing is more important right now than … Continue reading

The Pets Blog Week in Review for May 26 – June 1

I goofed and missed last week’s Week in Review. Rather than catching you up on two week’s worth of articles, I’ll just start anew with what Aimee and I wrote last week. Enjoy! Monday, May 26 Aimee educated us about the Bichon Frise breed. Tuesday, May 27 In a Diary of a Cat Care B&B entry, Aimee mused about smelly cats. (It was very educational. Who knew there were so many kinds of bad cat odors? And causes of them too!) Wednesday, May 28 I wrote about the incredible video of a baby water buffalo surviving a lion and crocodile … Continue reading

Why Women are Put on Bed Rest

While most women are healthy throughout pregnancy, some will be put on bed rest at some time in the pregnancy. About one million pregnancies each year are categorized as high risk. For many of these women, there will be restrictions on activity, including periods of bed rest. There are several conditions that will necessitate bed rest. Pre eclampsia commonly results in at least some bed rest. This condition occurs in five to ten percent of pregnancies. Bed rest may be at home, in the hospital, or periods of both hospital and home bed rest. Other reasons for bed rest include … Continue reading

Surviving the Holidays with Dysfunctional Family: Going Home with the Right Heart

Hopefully your visit with family brings new light to those who don’t yet know Jesus. I really sincerely pray your family is intrigued by what is “different” in you. This has always been my hope for my husband and me as well. I really feel if I hadn’t been a Christian, there would really be no in point visiting certain people. I know the Lord was encouraging us to press on and pray. He wanted us to trust He was with us. We never left families’ homes without something to pray for. There is a time to say enough is … Continue reading

Surviving Spring Break at Walt Disney World

Though the weather may not be the best indicator, spring is finally here. Soon, school will be letting out for a brief break before the rush to summer vacation begins. For many families, this means that a Walt Disney World spring break vacation will soon be upon them. Of course, you may notice a particular word in that last sentence: many. That’s right. Your family won’t be the only one cruising down South for the spring vacation. Nope. You and a thousand other families. Not to mention teenagers and college students who are making their own spring break memories within … Continue reading

It’s Okay To Take The Couch

For many pregnant women, there comes a point when your bed no longer offers the same comfort and relaxation it used to. Lying flat on any surface for any period of time sounds horrifying, since you know getting back up will be painful and you won’t get much rest. Lying on your back is not recommended and lying on your side can result in throbbing hip pain. I found that the least uncomfortable position to sleep in was a slightly reclined, seated position. Since I do not have a recliner, I repositioned a few pillows on the couch to recreate … Continue reading

I’ll Do It Tomorrow

I went outside this morning for the first time this week. You might think that going three days without ever leaving the apartment is crazy, but there have been weeks this winter when we haven’t ventured out. It’s a beautiful, sunny day, and if I wasn’t able to look at the temperature or see the snow, I’d think it was spring. The sky is blue, there’s a breeze rustling through the trees, and I can hear the mellow clanging of our neighbors’ wind chimes. Sure, I could bundle my baby up and take her for a walk in the stroller. … Continue reading

Alternative Living in Las Vegas

The other day I wrote about Daniel Suelo, who gave up money and now lives in a cave, surviving off what he can get without buying it. The other day, I read another article that reminded me that, for green reasons or not, many people are turning to alternative ways of living. Steven and Kathryn may look like a typical Las Vegas couple, but there is one big difference – they live in the flood tunnels of the city. If you have ever been to the city, you can imagine the flood tunnels aren’t used much because it is dry … Continue reading
