Making the Crib Bumper

In my second trimester, I decided, after doing lots and lots of research, to make my own crib bedding. I could not find what I wanted for a price I was willing to pay. I wanted a more versatile and simpler nursery. How hard can it be to make a crib skirt and bumper? After I finally selected a white cotton fabric, I was able to get my husband’s aunt to help me with the crib skirt. Thanks to her expertise in sewing, the crib skirt was made in a matter of days, but the bumper was an entirely different story. … Continue reading

The Crib Bedding Dilemma

After buying a crib bedding set for the arrival of our son and after realizing that we may never again have a dedicated nursery (our two children will be sharing for awhile at least), I have decided that all those uber cute themed nursery sets are not for me or my psuedo nursery. I like things to match and the only way to guarantee the longevity of matching bedding is to go white. I am realizing that going white is easier said than done. After spending countless hours on-line trying to find “white” crib bedding that is modern, clean, and … Continue reading

Our Daughter’s Baptism Part III

With the house clean and the food mostly prepared (the Caesar salad would be thrown together while the Shepherd’s Pie is baking in the oven), I turned my attention to ironing the baptismal gown. I got this particular gown for my son’s baptism over two years ago and it had only been worn once after that, three months ago, by my goddaughter. I had spent a couple of days trying to get a some yellow spots out of the gown and finally succeeded with a bleach stick and a thorough washing. Now the cotton gown with pearl embellishments needed a … Continue reading

Constant Motion

As I near the end of my pregnancy, I am finding that I cannot seem to slow down. Every day begins with a new “to do” list. From finishing nursery projects to running weekly errands, to cleaning, to holiday baking; there is always something to do that seems to require urgent attention. Procrastination is not an option! My mornings seem to start at about eight in the morning, depending on my “to do” list, I either begin my day with yogurt and a workout, or a larger breakfast of an omelet and an orange with my husband and son with … Continue reading

Getting Ready for the Baby

Preparations for our daughters birth began as soon as we discovered that I was expecting. There is always something to do whether it be taking supplements to support the baby’s development or getting baby gear together. With each phase of pregnancy comes new things to accomplish and additional changes to be made. I have had my fair share of changes to my regular routine including my diet and exercise regime; modifications were a must to maintain a healthy pregnancy. I also undertook many projects in preparation for the baby, many of them taking the form of “art” projects for the … Continue reading

Readying the Baby’s Room

Preparing the nursery has become an endless task. I went from merely gathering ideas to implementing projects towards its completion. It seems that I keep finding more projects for the nursery (which is also our son’s room). Some projects have been started and amazingly finished, while other projects have been started and temporarily abandoned to start additional projects. Our combined nursery/toddler room has changed significantly since we first moved back to the midwest. After discovering that we are having a girl, I knew exactly what theme I was going with for our baby daughter: ballet. However, I had never picked … Continue reading
