Nicole Kidman recently was quoted as crediting the water in specific waterfalls in Australia with the conception of her daughter. It turns out, belief in healing waters is widespread. There are waters around the world that are thought to be places of healing. Read more in Are there really miracle waters for conception?

Diabetes in pregnant women may be the result of a chronic condition, such as Type I diabetes, or be triggered by the pregnancy, as in gestational diabetes. In both cases, it is critical for the mother to control her blood sugar level to reduce the risk of serious complications for her and her baby. Obesity has been linked to many complications in pregnancy as well as problems in conceiving. Previous studies have pointed to a link between obesity and miscarriage. New research delves into this further and shows a link between obesity in recurrent miscarriage. Using body mass index to classify women, they found obese women have a higher risk of having recurrent miscarriages. Read more in The Link Between Recurrent Miscarrage and Obesity

Some women experience a certain degree of hair loss during pregnancy. What is far more common is losing hair after the baby is born. This is the result of shifting hormone levels, returning to their pre pregnancy levels. This change causes additional shedding and women find more hair in the drain and hair brush than normal.
