In case you were in hiding or never watch the news, the pregnant man is a married transitional transsexual. Thomas Beatie, born Tracy Beatie, gave birth to a daughter about five months ago. Beatie had his breasts removed and took male hormones, but did not have the full surgery to become a man. He and his wife used donor sperm, injected at home by the wife, to conceive both children. With the first pregnancy, many believed it was a hoax, until it was confirmed by his physician. The second baby will join an older sister in June. The kids will be just a year apart in age. Yesterday, the pregnant man and his wife sat down for an interview with Barbara Walters. During the interview, Beatie said he did not resume taking his male hormones after the birth of his little girl because the couple intended to have another child. The couple married in 2003 and decided they wanted to start a family. However, Beatie's wife, Nancy, had a prior hysterectomy and couldn't conceive a child. After briefly considering surrogacy, the decision was made to have Thomas conceive and bear the children with his own eggs and donor sperm. The couple resorted to self insemination at home, after being rejected by several fertility clinics. Thomas Beatie's first foray into fatherhood got immediate attention around the world. Religious people and organizations spoke out against the pregnancy and Beatie's condition resulted in a multitude of spoofs on You Tube and many other websites. The reaction to this one remains to be seen, but promises to be just as lively. Beatie claims he received death threats when pregnant with is daughter and still receives a steady stream of hate mail. The couple told Walters they live a quiet life in Oregon and try to avoid the media spotlight. They claim they initially released the photographs of Thomas when he was pregnant with their daughter because it was impossible to hide and they wanted to tell the story before it got out on its own.
