Pregnant: Am I Doing It Right?

During my pregnancy I’ve felt a couple times like I wasn’t “doing it right.”  Not that I wasn’t taking care of my body or baby properly, but that I didn’t care enough, and that meant I wasn’t going to be very good at this whole mothering thing.  I didn’t feel that way in response to serious events, or in the face of friends with children, or anything like that. It started when I was asked “what’s your countdown?”  I had no idea what the person was talking about.  Apparently it meant how many days left until my due date.  I … Continue reading

Medicaid in Wyoming Can Help Pregnant Women

Most states will cover women who are pregnant in their Medicaid program. Wyoming has three programs that are a part of Medicaid that will cover women who are pregnant. Newborns who are born to mothers who are qualified for Medicaid automatically get covered by the Kids Care CHIP. Medicaid, as you may know, is a public, or government run, form of health insurance. It is funded, in part, by the federal government, and in part by the state government. The purpose of the Medicaid program is to provide an affordable form of health insurance for families and individuals who are … Continue reading

Have You Googled Yourself Into Thinking That You Are Pregnant?

Most of us can remember a time when we had a pregnancy scare. Although being pregnant is a wonderful thing much of the time, there are certain times when the thought of becoming pregnant is not very appealing and sometimes quite scary. Perhaps you were in a new relationship, or a relationship that you were beginning to feel would not work out after all. Maybe you were young and not ready for a baby yet. Perhaps you already had one or more children and did not want to increase your family size again. Whatever the situation was, you were just … Continue reading

Benefits of Exercise When Pregnant

With three teenagers, having a baby is the last thing on my mind. But with so many women I know around me carrying a child, I was thinking about how differently I might have felt nearly 18, 15 and 13 years ago when I was pregnant if I had been more active. Exercise may be the last thing on earth you feel like doing when you are pregnant. You may be dealing with nausea and a lack of energy. You may feel big as a house. But many of the aches and pains that come along with pregnancy could be … Continue reading

Angelina Jolie Pregnant Again?

I didn’t talk about it in my 84th Academy Awards blog, but if you saw the show, you will know what I am talking about when I say “The Leg.” As expected, the arrival of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt caused a big stir on the Red Carpet. I didn’t watch them, but I did notice the she was presenting an award that night. She handed out the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar, but it wasn’t the presentation that caused all the media attention, it was “The Leg.” (The copyright holder of this work, Georges Biard, allows anyone to use it … Continue reading

Working at Home While Pregnant and Raising a Toddler

Today’s topic is for the stay – at – home moms out there. If you started working at home after the arrival of your first little one, it is entirely possible that you may find yourself working from home and raising a young child while expecting your second child. That is where I am at right now. Our son is twenty seven months old, I work from home fifteen to twenty hours a week, and we are expecting a baby boy in the middle of April. My husband works outside of the home fifty hours a week, but if you … Continue reading

I Would Do It All Again

If you had it to do over again, would you? Raising kids is hard, there is no doubt about it. I remember sometimes thinking if I had really known what this was like, I might have made a different choice. Usually that was when I was walking the floor for the third night in a row with a teething baby or when my teenager seemed to hate me and everything I stand for, but it all worked out. For every moment that you think, “What was I thinking?” there are a million more that let you know there is nothing … Continue reading

Pregnant Mother Vindicated

Remember the pregnant Honolulu mom, who was accused of stealing a couple of sandwiches from a local Safeway last week? Nicole Leszczynski and her husband were thrown into jail and their toddler taken into custody by Child Welfare Services all because they allegedly forgot to pay for a couple of chicken salad snacks they ate before leaving the store. Well, hopefully the rest of Nicole’s pregnancy will be stress-free from here on out. The 28-year-old mom, who made national headlines with her sandwich story, has been vindicated. According to news reports, Safeway decided to calm the PR firestorm they got … Continue reading

The Mormon Mom Blog Squad

There really could be a squad for all the Mormon Mommy Bloggers out there. Actually, it would be more like an army, not a squadron. But, that’s beside the point. I recently wrote an article titled, Mormon Mommy Blogs, that talks about the obsession with these blogs. I have to admit, I’m part of that obsession. Sometimes, I find myself looking at these blogs and my head is spinning. After all, I’m a MM Blogger too. I don’t have advertising, and sponsors, and loads of followers. I secretly might want all of that though. I don’t know, maybe I don’t. … Continue reading

The Pregnant Mind

I think there is something to be said for the pregnant woman’s mind. While I have no scientific data to back this up, I have a theory. Pregnant women around the world will argue with me I’m sure. Especially those that were desperately waiting to have their baby and watched their due date come and go, but this is my experience: I think I controlled (somewhat) when I had my babies. While I write this article with a little bit of humor, I do believe maybe I did have something to do with when I went into labor and actually … Continue reading
