Mindy McCready Dead at 37

Sometimes, you see tragedy coming for celebrities and you just know there is not much anyone can do to stop it.  How many people were surprised when Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston died, even though it seemed to be coming for years. The same may be said for country singer Mindy McCready.  The singer’s brother announced that she committed suicide today in Heber Springs, Arkansas.  She was 37. McCready rose to fame at the young age of 21 when her debut album, Ten Thousand Angels, sold two million copies and produced four charts singles.  She became briefly engaged to actor … Continue reading

Forget The Don’t List Here Are Things That You Can Do While Pregnant

There can be days when it seems like your positive pregnancy test came with a list of restrictions a mile long. You go to the neighborhood deli to get some lunch and then realize that you have been told not to eat lunch meat. Ski season is just around the corner and you realize that you are going to have to sit this one out. Depending upon how far along you are in pregnancy and how your pregnancy is progressing, you may be even further restricted by bed rest and other activity limitations as you go along. Even on those … Continue reading

Benefits of Exercise When Pregnant

With three teenagers, having a baby is the last thing on my mind. But with so many women I know around me carrying a child, I was thinking about how differently I might have felt nearly 18, 15 and 13 years ago when I was pregnant if I had been more active. Exercise may be the last thing on earth you feel like doing when you are pregnant. You may be dealing with nausea and a lack of energy. You may feel big as a house. But many of the aches and pains that come along with pregnancy could be … Continue reading

Angelina Jolie Pregnant Again?

I didn’t talk about it in my 84th Academy Awards blog, but if you saw the show, you will know what I am talking about when I say “The Leg.” As expected, the arrival of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt caused a big stir on the Red Carpet. I didn’t watch them, but I did notice the she was presenting an award that night. She handed out the Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar, but it wasn’t the presentation that caused all the media attention, it was “The Leg.” (The copyright holder of this work, Georges Biard, allows anyone to use it … Continue reading

Pregnant Sisters Reunited

Amidst the craziness that was my nineteenth week of pregnancy, my thirty three week pregnant sister came for a week long visit. Prior to this visit, I had not seen her for an entire year, which is a really long time for us to go without seeing each other. This particular sister and I are very close: close in age, close in mindset, close in goals, close in values, close in priorities, and recently close in pregnancy. When my sister discovered that she was pregnant, I was the first person she told (besides her husband of course). When I found … Continue reading

Lose Weight Before Getting Pregnant?

If you know that you are going to be trying to have a baby soon, it sounds crazy to think of trying to lose weight first. What’s the point right? However, I did that with both of my kids. I lost about 20 lbs. before getting pregnant with both of them because I wanted to be at my healthiest when trying to conceive. Does your weight make a difference? Trying to conceive when you are overweight can be more difficult. But, not always. Many women who are overweight experience hormone problems that result in irregular ovulation cycles. This can lead … Continue reading

The Pregnant Mind

I think there is something to be said for the pregnant woman’s mind. While I have no scientific data to back this up, I have a theory. Pregnant women around the world will argue with me I’m sure. Especially those that were desperately waiting to have their baby and watched their due date come and go, but this is my experience: I think I controlled (somewhat) when I had my babies. While I write this article with a little bit of humor, I do believe maybe I did have something to do with when I went into labor and actually … Continue reading

The Pregnant Woman’s Packing List

With summer in full swing, people are taking trips to visit family, relax on beaches, or go on new adventures. Depending on the destination, many people often choose to drive to their vacation spot. Riding in the car for an extended period of time, however, can put a damper on the fun, especially when you are pregnant. Let’s hope you have A/C in your car. Besides proper climate control, it’s a good idea to bring: 1. A comfy travel pillow. Whether it be a donut, boppy or overstuffed bed pillow, having something soft to lean your head against when you’re … Continue reading

What If You’re Not Pregnant?

(Excuse me while I go all “philosophical” on you.) You’ve spent the last week swinging back and forth between feelings of anticipation and feelings of dread. One minute you’re looking at baby shoes with a heart full of hope; the next minute you’re gripped with disappointment, trying to convince yourself you are not pregnant so you don’t get your hopes up. The truth is, in your mind, you are neither pregnant nor not pregnant. You are in limbo; you simply don’t know. You are aware that limbo cannot exist when it comes to pregnancy, but you are too uncomfortable with … Continue reading

Pregnant on the Pill?

I know several women who conceived on the pill and it’s likely that you do, too. The pill is 92-99.7% effective in preventing pregnancy. That means if you know one hundred women who are on hormonal birth control (which is highly likely that you do considering how prevalent it is), chances are at least one of them, and as many as eight of them, might become pregnant anyway. If you have ever watched the show I Didn’t Know I Was Pregnant, you know that many of the women featured on the show were taking birth control when they conceived. It’s … Continue reading
