Things To Do Before Baby Arrives - Part I
by Kim Neyer | More from this Blogger
When you have a baby, your whole world changes. You will have to sacrifice a lot of your independence, time and resources. In return, you will receive love, wisdom you can't get anywhere else, and priceless memories. Children will reveal what you want to change and mold you into the person you want to be. They force you to become selfless, honest, full of integrity, creative, generous, adventurous, patient and tough as nails. There is a whole list of reasons that having children will change your life for the better. Some things will never be the same again, and are worth enjoying before the kids come along. In the nine months that precede one of the biggest challenges and changes you'll ever face in your lifetime, take the time to savor your current season of life.
Run away for the weekend. Sometimes called a "babymoon," taking a short vacation while you are pregnant is a great chance to reconnect and take advantage of your time alone together. No need to look for a sitter!
Burn candles. While you're at it, decorate your coffee table, leave things out, use your fireplace and take a break from vacuuming and mopping all the time. These are all things you won't be able to do once little fingers start exploring the lower perimeters of your home (unless giving yourself a migraine was on your top 10 list of things to do this year.)
Sleep in. After your baby arrives, you can unplug all the alarm clocks, but you'll still be awoken by the sounds of an infant who is ready to start the day at 6:30am!
Go on plenty of dates and stay out late. While there is no rule against taking an infant to dinner and movie, you'll soon find it's not very practical or fun. There's nothing wrong with finding a babysitter, but you may not want to leave your baby once the time comes. They have a way of stealing your heart and never giving it back. Baby or movie? That's a hard decision to make for some new moms!
