Spending Time With My Sister Part VII

That evening family began to arrive for the baby’s baptism which would take place on the following day. My sister’s in-laws were the first to arrive around dinner time. The pizzas we had purchased earlier in the week would be dinner. While my brother-in-law was getting together hors’d oeuvres and my sister was ensuring that the baby was good and nursed (in preparation for the attentions from family), I made red velvet cupcakes. My sister had decided that the celebratory cake in honor of her daughter’s baptism should symbolize the holy spirit and purity, thus red velvet cupcakes with white … Continue reading

Spending Time With My Sister Part I

I recently spent a week visiting my sister, brother-in-law, and four week old niece. I made the ten hour drive with my two year old son and my unborn daughter. Pregnancy really has an impact on everything I do and being away from home did not change the fact that I still have to take my prenatal vitamins, eat healthy, and exercise regularly. My dear sister made all those things possible during my stay. As soon as my son and I arrived, we were greeted with a warm homemade meal of free range chicken seasoned and tossed with pesto and … Continue reading

Traveling During Pregnancy Part IV

11AM It has been two hours since our first stop and we could use some gasoline in the car. I am fairly quickly able to find a big gas station right off the interstate, which makes for a much easier stop. While I am pumping the gas, I am also unbuckling my two year old so that we can make a quick run to the bathroom (at this point I am doing my I-have-to-pee-so-bad dance!). Once again I let the boy run a bit before getting back into the car to continue our trip! We also grab cheese and apples … Continue reading

Traveling During Pregnancy Part III

8AM We have only been driving for an hour and II was hoping that I could make at least two hours before needing to stop to use the restroom. After finishing my latte and with a baby bouncing on my bladder, it seems that stopping sooner than I anticipated is going to be a necessity. I just need to find the perfect place to stop. Since we do not need gas yet, I am thinking that a rest stop would provide the perfect stopping grounds with easy access to the interstate. 8:30 So far there has been no rest stops … Continue reading

Traveling During Pregnancy Part II

The day planned for our long drive as arrived! 6AM: Wake up and make breakfast! I prepared the veggies for our omlete the day before and set everything up for my latte the evening before too. I am not going to sacrifice the most important meal of the day nor my favorite meal of the day for travel. While the vegetables and sausage are cooking, I fill the cooler with the perishable foods that we are bringing with us, and make my yummy latte and I get all my morning prenatal vitamins together. 6:30AM We are finishing up breakfast and … Continue reading

On the Road (Part IV)

10:00AM Now that we are traveling east, the cross wind makes for a certain challenge more so for my husband in the truck than for me. Still it’s not entirely enjoyable to fight against the wind for what will surely be the next few hours. Thankfully, it’s still sunny with no apparent threats of inclement weather. 10:30AM Nausea strikes again! I’m not surprised. Almonds and strawberries to the rescue. Our son is still sleeping which I can’t imagine will last much longer, and it doesn’t within a few minutes he’s awakes and my sister immediately gives him some crackers and … Continue reading

Week Twenty Nine

The weeks are really starting to fly by now. With my twenty ninth week of pregnancy came a few changes some of which were expected while others were not. At the beginning of the week, I spent a lot of time preparing for the long drive to visit my sister, brother-in-law and four week old niece. My focused shifted from baby related projects to cleaning and packing. Seeing my new niece reminded me of the demands of an infant. I have gotten so use to my son’s independence and I am realizing that our daily routine will change significantly once … Continue reading
