Kid-Friendly Halloween Movies

October is the month in which many people like to watch a bunch of scary movies. That’s fine for adults and older teens who happen to like horror movies. Unfortunately, those types of movies are not appropriate for little kids. They are just too scary! Are your kids asking to watch Halloween movies that they are way too young for? Here are some alternative, kid-friendly, movies that they can watch instead. “It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown!” This one has been around for a very long time. You may have watched it when you were a child. Now, you can … Continue reading

101 Dalmatians Book and Movie: Always Charming

The 1956 book “The Hundred and One Dalmatians” by Dodie Smith is a very English, very droll story of married Dalmatians Pongo and Missis, and their also-married pets, Mr. & Mrs. Dearly.  You read that right: Missis.  Perhaps the biggest surprise (to me) reading the novel on which the Disney film was based, was to discover that Pongo’s wife was not called Perdita, but Missis.  Even stranger is when a dog named Perdita appears.  She’s a liver (brown)-spotted Dalmatian that serves as a wet nurse for Missis, who cannot handle the milk load required by 15 puppies. Perdita’s own pups … Continue reading

What To Expect From The What To Expect Movie

If you are pregnant, there’s a good chance that you are aware that one of the most popular pregnancy books out there has been turned into a movie. “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” has helped many women (and men) to understand what goes on during pregnancy. I have read the book, and have found it to be a great resource that I referred to often during both of my pregnancies. When I heard that the book was headed for the big screen, I began to wonder how a movie about being pregnant would do in theaters. While I have … Continue reading

“Ted” Movie Includes Joke About Lou Gehrig’s Disease

There is a movie called “Ted” that includes a teddy bear that has a foul-mouth. This is definitely not a movie for children! Somewhere in the movie, there is a joke about Lou Gehrig’s disease. This has made several people quite upset. There is a new movie called “Ted”. At first glance, the description of the plot may sound as though it is a children’s movie. John Bennett, played by Mark Wahlberg, made a wish when he was a child. He wanted his teddy bear to come to life. The wish came true, and Ted has been with John ever … Continue reading

Unrealistic Expectations Are No Fun For Anyone

Today, I realized that one of the most frustrating things about being the parent of a toddler has nothing to do with the toddler at all. Nor does it have anything to do with his two month old baby brother. Nope, the source of my frustration is none other than – myself. You see, I have been setting unrealistic expectations for myself and then getting mad at myself for falling short of them. Examples are helpful, so let’s take a minute to compare what I had hoped to accomplish today with what I actually did accomplish. Keep in mind that … Continue reading

Disney Website for New and Expecting Parents

Remember Our365? I don’t expect you do. Almost a year ago I posted about how Disney had teamed up with the organization that helps companies market to expectant parents. Our365 can actually get its partner companies’ representatives into maternity wards to try to sell their wares. For all I know either the company or its partnership is now defunct. But Disney hasn’t stopped sniffing around its coveted new market. On Monday January 17 the House of Mouse launched disneybaby.com. Disney Baby works just like other sites in the Disney Go family, although strangely its URL doesn’t contain the word “go” … Continue reading

Muppets Movie Trailers

The start of summer saw the release of four Muppet movie trailers. The tone of those trailers, though they contained many of the same scenes, taught us a lot what the new Muppet movie will feel like. Isn’t that any diehard Muppets fan’s biggest complaint: that most of the Muppet movies released in the 1990s didn’t feel like Muppet movies? Something about them didn’t contain that unique Jim Henson sense of humor. It’s not that we expect they could, since Henson’s passing. That raises the question, however, of whether Muppet movies should continue if they couldn’t remain true to their … Continue reading
