Have you heard about College Bound Sisters? It is a program in Greensboro, North Carolina that is designed to prevent teen pregnancy. Wagging My Tail Goodbye to the Pets Blog

I’m sitting in my office looking out the window watching the snow melt from the rooftops and bushes as I’m writing this. Last night we got measureable snow, a bit of an oddity in December for us here in Nashville. Whenever we get snow like this now I think about the first winter I was writing for Families.com. We got snow one February and I took Murph outside to play in it, then wrote about it as my blog for the day later. How much inspiration I’ve drawn from my pets over the past two years since I first began … Continue reading

Entire Family Gets Kicked Off Plane—What would you do?

Imagine spending thousands of dollars to fly yourself, your pregnant sister and your four young children from Detroit to Seattle, but instead of getting to your final destination without incident you end up at a police station in Phoenix and details of your horrific encounter are splashed in newspapers from coast to coast. Hard to fathom, right? Well, that’s exactly what happened to Wendy Slaughter just a few short weeks ago. Slaughter, her four young children, and her expectant sister were traveling on a Southwest Airlines flight from Detroit to Seattle and had gotten as far as the Phoenix Sky … Continue reading

Jessica Alba Gets Married

Perhaps she didn’t want to deal with choosing a glitzy overpriced wedding dress, fancy party favors, or a multi-layered cake. Or maybe she simply didn’t want her daughter to see her living in sin. Either way when Jessica Alba’s daughter is born next month she will be welcomed home by parents who are… married. News flash: According to PEOPLE magazine, the actress and her fiancé Cash Warren are now newlyweds. Eddie Murphy Gets Hitched and Marie Osmond Embraces the Single Life

After several months of delays and threats of cancellation Eddie Murphy and fiancée Tracey Edmonds decided to just do it. The couple reportedly wed on New Year’s Day on a private island in French Polynesia. According to PEOPLE Magazine, the lavish affair was attended by a very small group (less than 30) of family and friends. However, what the wedding lacked in numbers it made up for in elegance. Oprah’s pal, renowned event coordinator Colin Cowie, reportedly created a gazebo on the beach made out of 6,000 shells for the couple’s sunset oceanside ceremony. Cowie also flew in a four-layered … Continue reading

Usher Gets Married

Yes, I was shocked when I heard about it too. (After all, this was a blog I planned to have done last week.) Less than six days after the R&B singer and his fiancée Tameka Foster abruptly cancelled their much-publicized Hamptons wedding the two made it legal in Atlanta on Friday. According to news reports, Usher is a married man. And it reportedly happened in the less than glamorous setting of his lawyer’s office—void of the pomp and circumstance that surrounded their original event. From what I’ve heard, simple would be an understatement. The couple reportedly went to Usher’s attorney’s … Continue reading

Tabby and Mr. Meow: Friends (And Playmates) At Last

Mr. Meow letting Tabby share his leather chair. Ever since I found Tabby and became a foster cat mom, she and Mr. Meow have had “issues.” If you’re new to reading my blogs, let me catch you up: The First Three Weeks Things were fine to start with. They tolerated being in the same rooms together, but kept a healthy distance. It was during Tab’s fourth week with us that things started changing… The Pregnancy During that fourth week she suddenly got just plain nasty towards Mr. Meow. She’d chase him from our bedroom and eventually got so territorial he … Continue reading

Tabby Gets Spayed

Well, the procedure was yesterday and today Tabby was free to come home. (She had to stay overnight at the vet’s so they could monitor her and administer pain medication if necessary.) I was surprised when I opened her cat carrier and she popped right out. She seemed a little dazed, but more than happy to be home. I was happy to have her home too. I worried about her like crazy all day Monday. I know it’s a pretty standard procedure, but even those can run into snags from time to time. I was so relieved when Dr. Singleton … Continue reading

Let’s Talk Pregnancy Blog Top Ten – Ways to Break the News

I distinctly remember the ancient Full House episode in which Aunt Becky attempts to announce her pregnancy to Uncle Jesse during a family game of Pictionary. First she drew a wheel of cheese, then I think she mocked cutting it in half, then came a bottle of ink, and of course a picture of a baby. Cheese. Half. Ink. A baby? Sheeeeshalvingababy? She’s having a baby! And the Tanner family erupted with congratulatory whelping. There’s more than one way to break the news of your pregnancy to family, friends and significant others, so why not make it really fun – … Continue reading
