The Psychology of Why Married Men Cheat, Part 2

In Part 1 I presented some of the reasons the panelists interviewed on Today posed as reasons for why men cheat. Here are the rest. The “Me First” Mentality Jeff Gardere, the psychologist (and the only man on the panel), brought this one up, Dr. Laura seconded it, and Helen Fisher nodded in agreement: men are weak and selfish. I definitely believe this one. Sure, there are some women who can be considered high maintenance, but all men are –no matter how simple they may seem. Admit it, ladies. You may have the greatest guy in the world, but he … Continue reading

Why Nookie Should Be on Your Christmas Wish List

On Friday afternoon I happened to catch an interesting report on MSNBC. (Or maybe it was Headline News. I was in a post-Christmas shopping stupor at that point so I may have my channels confused. I was flipping between the two. But I think it was MSNBC.) At any rate, the reporters were talking about the surprising results of a poll TODAY conducted in conjunction with iVillage. They wanted to know about sex lives, in particular how often people were…well, doing it. Turns out, not all that often. The Results 30% had gone without it for a few months 24% … Continue reading

Why Women are Put on Bed Rest

While most women are healthy throughout pregnancy, some will be put on bed rest at some time in the pregnancy. About one million pregnancies each year are categorized as high risk. For many of these women, there will be restrictions on activity, including periods of bed rest. There are several conditions that will necessitate bed rest. Pre eclampsia commonly results in at least some bed rest. This condition occurs in five to ten percent of pregnancies. Bed rest may be at home, in the hospital, or periods of both hospital and home bed rest. Other reasons for bed rest include … Continue reading

The Let’s Talk Pregnancy Blog Top Ten: How to Induce Labor Naturally

If you’re attempting to have the most natural labor possible, you’re going to want to avoid artificial induction at all costs. Not only are artificially-induced contractions often significantly stronger and more painful, but starting labor unnaturally can likely lead to further complications. The current state of your cervix will determine how likely the onset of labor is. No amount of any of these, save number one maybe, will produce a baby if it’s not time. Sure, there are plenty of old wive’s tales for starting labor naturally, including eating spicy foods or taking a ride down a bumpy road. But … Continue reading

How to Organize Your Purse

At a management seminar once, all of the women were asked to pass their purse to the woman on the left who would look in it (it was an all women meeting). You could see the horror fly across the faces of each women present. When asked why the exercise made the women so uncomfortable, most admitted that rather than being embarrassed about the contents of their purses, they were embarrassed to reveal how messy and disorganized they were. Of course, there was one “perfect” soul, bless her heart, whose purse was neat and compartmentalized, but chances are that she … Continue reading

Get a Free Coke Zero With Your Turkey Burger

Fast food restaurants cannot usually be described as the best place for someone to find a healthy meal. Despite this, there are many people who crave fast food when they are on a diet. In response, several fast food places have started to offer slightly healthier food choices, like diet beverages and leaner burgers. You can get a coupon for a free Coke Zero drink when you buy a turkey burger from Carl’s Jr. I remember the first time I ate at a Carl’s Jr. restaurant. I grew up in the Midwest, and there weren’t any Carl’s Jr. restaurants where … Continue reading

I Hate Pregnancy

I have to be honest. I don’t like being pregnant that much. I don’t have it that bad though. Some women suffer from serious morning sickness. I didn’t. Some women get put on bed rest. Not me. But, I still don’t care for being pregnant. I’m a whiner. I have been my whole life, so being pregnant just gives me entirely too many reasons to complain. I do get sick during the first trimester. I never threw up, but did get very nauseous during the early evening hours. Other than that, the first trimester just brought with it extreme fatigue. … Continue reading

Deep Vein Thrombosis

Deep vein thrombosis is the formation of a blood clot in a deep vein, most commonly in the leg or the pelvis. Clots are more likely to occur in the left side, especially in the left calf area. Symptoms of DVT include pain, swelling, and redness. If the clot becomes loose and travels to the lungs, it can cause a pulmonary embolism, which can be fatal. During pregnancy, women are at an increased risk for deep vein thrombosis since blood flow slows down and clots easier. Previous cases of DVT during pregnancy increases a woman’s risk even further. If you … Continue reading
