Wow, That Was Embarrassing!

To lighten things up here on the pregnancy blog, I am going to entertain you this week with a few embarrassing stories from my own pregnancy.

When I was about six months pregnant, visibly showing and right in the throes of pregnancy and all of its embarrassing glory, I was invited to a girls' night with a group of friends. It was the Christmas season, so in the true spirit of the holidays and girls' night, we were baking Christmas cookies. Of course, since I was pregnant, I had no shame about indulging in some of the cookie dough or other treats that were being passed around. Unfortunately, sometimes junk food can make a person bloated with gas, particularly if she is pregnant.

As I was talking and laughing with friends, I could feel the pressure building. The pressure was amplified by the extra twenty pounds of pregnancy weight I had gained. As much as I tried to hold it in and focus on the conversation, it was getting harder by the minute. It was then that one of my friends cracked a joke. Laughing did two things, it relaxed me and it put that extra little pressure on my stomach. I'm sure you can guess what happened next: I farted right in front of everyone!

I turned bright red and my face grew hot. My friends laughed, but at the same time, I couldn't help but laugh right with them! I said, "oops! Sorry, this baby is pushing everything out and I can't hold it in!" They were gracious enough laugh it off and let it go; they did not tease me for it. From then on, I paid more attention to what I ate because I new if I ate too much junk, it was going to be a repeat incident!
